This is one of the funniest British comedy shows on TV of recent years.

About the show
*************

The show first aired on BBC3 in May 2007 and has 6 x 30 minute episodes in this first series. The show starts of with 2 people who have become quite friendly whilst chatting on the phone at work. They are Gavin and Stacey, Gavin is from Essex and Stacey is from Barry Island, Wales. In the first episode they agree to meet up in Leicester Square for their first meeting and they would both bring their best friends (Smithy and Nessa). Throughout this first series you see Gavin and Stacey's romance blossom, their engagement and in the last episode, their wedding. You also see a love/hate relationship develop between their 2 best friends (Smithy and Nessa). The show is written by James Corden and Ruth Jones who play Smithy and Nessa in the show.

The Main Characters
****************

Gavin - played by Matthew Horne. Gavin is a nice Essex boy who has become friendly and flirty with Stacey over the phone at work and decided that he wants to meet her. When they meet up, they are not disappointed and fall in love very quickly, They travel between Billericay, Essex and Barry Island to be with each other and he then proposes. They get married in the last episode of this series.

Stacey - played by Joanna Page. Stacey is this sweet naive girl from Barry Island, Wales. She lives at home with her mum. She has been engaged several times before and neglects to let on about this, it causes a little bit of friction when Gavin accidentally finds out.

Smithy - played by James Corden. Smithy is Gavin's best mate. He goes along with Gavin on his first meeting with Stacey and gets landed with Nessa (Stacey's friend). He does not find her in any way attractive but he does find himself sleeping with her on several occasions. Smithy already has a girlfriend whom we never see, but he is always talking about her, the only thing we know about her is her name is Lucy and she is very young.

Nessa - played by Ruth Jones. Nessa is Stacey's best friend and is hilarious, she has the best stories, that seem so far fetched. She is always coming out with the most random one liners, so funny. She is a curvy girl and wears some inappropriate clothes. She is quite an intimidating character.

Mick and Pam - played by Larry Lamb and Alison Steadman. These are Gavin's parents. They live in a nice house in Billericay. Mick runs his own business and is a down to earth guy, he just goes along with whatever Pam says. Pam does not work and is very house proud, she is constantly keeping up with the Jones'. For some reason Pam pretends to be vegetarian throughout this series and most of the second series too.

Uncle Bryn and Gwen - played by Rob Brydon and Melanie Walters. Bryn is Stacey's uncle from her Dad's side. He lives across the road from Stacey and Gwen, he is very involved and close with them, and feels he is there to look after the women since his brother died a few years ago. He holds a secret between him and his nephew Jason (Stacey's brother, who lives abroad and turns up at the end of the series). Bryn is a very Naive person and very funny with it. Gwen is Stacey's mum. She is always cooking omelettes. She is quite a mousy character and does not have much of an opinion on anything.

My Opinion
**********

I think this is one of the best British comedies. The show is well written and the material is hilarious. The characters all work really well together. My favourite character are Nessa. I just love Nessa's witty humour and how aggressive she can be, without realising. Her stories are so far fetched, you just can't help but crack a smile or sometimes just start laughing out loud.

I'd definitely recommend this dvd, you get to watch the whole series back to back.

This DVD is currently available on amazon for around 7 pounds.

Summary: Well worth watching
