Geri Yoga (DVD)

Description: Genre: Sports - Fitness / Theatrical Release: 2001 / Director: Steve Kemsley / Actors: Geri Halliwell, Katy Appleton ... more
Geri Yoga (DVD) ... ... / DVD released 12 May, 2003 at Cinema Club / Features of the DVD: PAL / Geri Halliwell's transformation from Spice Girl to hip babe owes as much to her taking up yoga--a step she shares with us in Geri Yoga--as it does to revamping her wardrobe. Where Madonna and Sting have led the craze in this field, Geri has decided to show us all the yoga way. The 90-minute Geri Yoga features yoga teacher Katy Appleton presenting two warm up sections, a core Hatha yoga class, relaxation, along with an interview with Geri on yoga as a lifestyle. The entire session appears unscripted, which means it captures the spontaneity of a lesson, yet it's presented in a slick manner from a modern airy studio. A former dancer with the English National Ballet, Katy Appleton's confident poise and ease diffuses Geri the star. Appleton manages to balance her instructions and attention between Tina (the beginner in the sessions) and the advanced Geri, enabling viewers to see how they can progress. Yoga aficionados will be impressed by the precision of Appleton's teaching and horrified by Geri's inane babbling. Unless you're a die-hard Geri fan who can forgive the inappropriate references to calories, you'll be waiting for Appleton to release Yoga without Geri. On the DVD: Geri fans will lap up the extended interview, while non Geri fans will be thankful for the isolated music score. There is also an additional session geared to re-energising and revitalising body and mind. --Lorna V

doesn't Geri's new body make everyone want to try yoga! to think that you can improve your tone through relaxing exercises sounds too good to be true. it's not like tuning into a half hour aerobics video where no prior knowledge is needed. even the breathing is complicated to start with and it is suggested that you practise every day. the warm up exercises are quite advanced and far more advanced than those used in the class i attend. the problem with the dvd is that you can't make an hour long programme to suit all abilities. geri doesn't fit in well to my idea of yoga - which is that it's meant to be practised quietly - she can't shut up, and often interupts the ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Are You Bendy? (1236 words)

I bought Geri yoga not knowing what to expect and also to learn about yoga. I have been wanting to do yoga for ages but never had time to go to classes or actually no anywhere that did them. There are different types of yoga so I didn't have a clue about it. Before even watching this video all I knew was that yoga was to get you in tune with your mind and body and to relax you, to get away from your stress for a while and it can also help your health. By the end of this video I realised that I liked yoga and it had made a change so I will explain what it is about. Katy Appleton is Geri's yoga teacher and although the video is Geri yoga, Geri ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Geri Yoga (DVD): Watch that lampshade! (738 words)

In my opinion this yoga video is not for everyone. Let me explain... Firstly not enough attention and explanation is given to the beginners variations for the postures, so if it's the first time you've tried that pose, or even yoga at all for that matter, then you may get lost and frustrated that you can't keep up or bend enough. When TINA (mostly in the background) is demonstrating the less advanced methods the camera is often pointing at Geri instead, so you miss a few moves here and there. Secondly, near the beginning of "GERI'S POSTURES" yoga section there is an emphasis on head stands. Through my own intuition I didn't ...  Read the complete review

Balancing on my head, feeling the blood gushing to my eyeballs is not really a sensation i'd like to feel in order to get fit. However, trudging through a high speed excercise video doesn't appeal to me either. Maybe i just don't like excercise! The 'relaxation' section of the tape was probabaly used more often than the sections that required more effort, but something happened because i lost 5lb (cheer!). You would also be surprised as to how much improved i in such little time. To begin with i couldn't touch my toes but through the help of this video, i became much more flexible. i haven't actually done yoga before this ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Geri Yoga (DVD): vhs bug (87 words)
by - written on 05/06/05 (Not useful, 44 readings)

I have a bug on my vhs tape where the video starts halfway through a position. The tape is fully rewound so this is weird as there is no intro or titles, it just jumps straight in. I have checked the casing and I appear to have lost a chapter or so. Has anyone heard of this error before? The rest is fine, once playing it runs to the end and I thoroughly enjoyed it but I can't help thinking I may have missed an important ...  Read the complete review
