Advantages: Sly has a funny silver suit

Disadvantages: the entire idea

Jack Carter, a mob enforcer living in Las Vegas, travels back to his hometown of Seattle for his brother's funeral. Carter realizes that the death was not an accident, but a murder. With this knowledge, Carter sets out to kill all those responsible.
Simple enough story (haven't seen the original but from what I can gather is
seems to be same story), so you would think that at worst it would be a laugh at Sly's expense. Turns out that it doesn't even achieve this, OK you'll laugh at Sly's shiny silver suit and at Mickey Rourke's sunglasses but that's about as good as it gets. Put simply this is bad, it's in a league with Hard Rain- decent enough cast, good basic story but it all goes pear shaped somewhere along the way. It looks good, very slick with nice flash cars etc. but after about five minutes I found it hard to give a toss about Carter, let alone those who want to get him. Even has the obligatory "Sly flexing over-pumped muscles" shot.

Couldn't even bring myself to watch the extra's on the DVD, it was that poor. (fortunatley I just rented this and didn't buy it!)

I was going to ask a combination of questions, but everyone else below has asked and answered them. LOL

Watch the original, it really is a remarkable movie which stands the test of time. All the more reason for Stallone to have left it alone. I believe it did go straight to the rental market but I haven't seen it anywhere.

The original is great. Very dark and gritty. It is set in Newcastle, and is excellent. How could they possibly remake it - especially with Stallone in it. Thankfully, I think this one went straight to video here.
