Advantages: wonderful cast, story and just enough of everything to make it suit everyone

Disadvantages: none

This is by far the most modern classic movie with something for everyone. Some good old fashioed romance, great laughs and some spine tingling thrills.

This is another one that I bought again recently after the transfer from video to DVD dwindled my collection to almost zero, and has watched over the last few weeks.

Basic plot...Sam Wheat and his girlfriend Mollie have th perfect life, until one evening, SAm is shot and killed in the street. Sort of...Sam is actually now a ghost who noone can see or hear, until he comes across Oda, played by Whoopi Goldberg. He then sets out to bring his killers to justice.

I mentioned in my review for A few Good Men that I just cant get to like Demi Moore, and I find her performace in this the same, quite wooden and while she is emotional at times, I am not and its strange, I just cannot connect with her and I dont know why. It just seems forced and like she doesnt want to be there. Although she gets cast with all the 'hunks' of the moment, so why wouldnt she want to be there!

Swayze does a great job i think, learning to be a ghost and the character develops well within this theme. He manages to be emotional, and quite hard-ass by the end of the movie, and he really drew me into the movie, by seeming genuine and by doing what every man would do...getting revenge!

While Swayze is good, Whoopi Goldberg is absolutely amazing, she adds a dimension into the movie that would not be there if anyone else had been cast into this role, the humour is there, and her facial expressions just crack me up. She does a remarkable job of speaking to swayze as though she cant see him, and turns the movie from the simple ghost story that it would have been into the amazing mulit genre bolckbusting classic that it was and still is. Her timing is, as usual spot on, and she drops the one liners so well that its hard to believe that she was scripted at all.

Amazingly, the horror incorporates well into this movie with pretty graphic death scenes in parts and horrible little devil things that come and take you away...the noice that accompanies these creature/ghost things haunted me for weeks, its a strange groaning, uneartly noise that scared the bejeesas out of me and still does whenever I watch this movie!

My personal reccomended scene (no not the unchained melody, pottery shennanigans!) is when Sam is trying to learn to touch things, it is hilarious and the character who teaches him is perfect to do this, the grumpy ghost with a trick or two up his sleeve!

The one scene which I feel didnt have to be in the movie is when Sam takes over Oda's body so that he can touch Mollie one more time, I felt a bit uncomfortable at first, and while it really is the culmination and finale from the love, romance point of view, I just felt that it wasnt important to the movie.

If I am to recommend a classic movie for all to see, it will be this one again and again. Blokes love it, chicks love it, and everyone has even a small twinge of emotion at some point during this movie.
