Ghost Rider - Extended Cut (DVD) ... 2007 at Sony Pictures Home Ent. UK / Features of the DVD: Anamorphic, Dubbed, PAL / Once intended as a feature for Johnny Depp, the long-germinating feature film adaptation of Marvel Comics' cult title Ghost Rider stars Nicolas Cage as motorcyclist Johnny Blaze, who transforms into a skull-faced angel of vengeance to battle the forces of evil. Though perhaps a bit too mature for the role, Cage brings a degree of humour to the outrageous proceedings; he's well matched by the Easy Rider himself Peter Fonda, amusingly cast as Mephistopheles, the demon with whom Blaze strikes a bargain to save his father, and in turn, causes his transformation into Ghost Rider. Wes Bentley is also fine as Blackheart, the rebellious offspring of Mephistopheles, and Blazes' chief opponent in the film. They're joined by a solid supporting cast which includes Donal Logue, Eva Mendes, and Sam Elliott, but their participation and a relentless barrage of CGI effects can't hide the fact that the story itself, though largely faithful to its comic origins, is rife with clichéd characterizations and glum B-movie dialogue. Fans of the venerable title may cry foul over this adaptation (as they did over helmer Mark Steven Johnson's previous comic-to-movie feature, Daredevil), but less stringent viewers may enjoy the fiery visuals and Cage's typically quirky performance. --Paul Gaita

Cage himself lends too much emotion and confusion to the role, that liften eyebrow look of desperation and pain too present on his face. He needed to ditch the emotion and concentrate on being Ghost Rider. Eva Mendes provides the love interest, which serves merely to add even more misplaced and poorly presented melodrama to a film that needed to focus far more on the action. Sam Elliot h...more

Premium Review Ghost Rider - Extended Cut (DVD): Let's ride (712 words)

Ghost Rider is a 2007 movie based on a Marvel comic character named Johnny Blaze, a world renowned stunt biker, who becomes the devil's bounty hunter. I loved Marvel comics growing up, but I have to say that Blaze was not a character that I was ever familiar with. Anyway, I thought this might be a fun movie so I bought it on DVD. At the start, we are introduced to the legend of the Ghost Rider, and soon meet a young Johnny Blaze. In his teenage years he is a stunt biker, who performs at carnivals with his father Brett. He is soon told that his girlfriend Roxanne is to be sent to live with her mum, and when Johnny happens upon further destructive news, he ...  Read the complete review

When he finds out that his father has terminal cancer, Johnny Blaze makes a pact with the Mephistopheles (Peter Fonda) to give him his soul if he saves his father. Once he has his soul the devil saves Blaze’s father temporally as per the agreement but double crosses him and kills Barton Blaze in a motorcycle accident. Many years later Johnny (Nicholas Cage) is risking his life in madder stunts every week until one week the Mephistopheles calls in his debt. If Johnny accepts the offer the devil will release him from his curse, but only if he becomes the Ghost Rider and stops his evil son Blackheart from destroying the world. The transformation of Ghost Rider to ...  Read the complete review

Johnny Blaze has traded his soul to Mephistopheles to cure his father's cancer. However, he is double-crossed and loses both his father and his soul. Transformed into "Ghost Rider", Blaze is forced to fight against Blackheart, Mephistopheles's son to protect the world from an apocalypse in order to save his soul, his love and the World. It would seem I am the only person in the World to think "Ghost Rider" it is a good film. I truly enjoyed and let you me tell you for why. It was exactly what I expected and wanted it to be; a dark comic with a vengeful and tragic hero and a wicked set of bad guys. Of course, it this is not a ...  Read the complete review

I don't know what possesed Marvel to carry on their stream of bad films, by making one from a pretty much unheard of character with one of the worse actors out there. I'd like to think of myself as a marvel fan, however i had never hear of this character until i saw the film trailor. The idea is that the Ghost Rider collects the dead who escape from hell for the Devil. However, once a Ghost Rider turned against the Devil and took some souls or something. Thats the idea i got. And now the son of the Devil is wanting these souls (which are in a contract) to turn against the Satan. Nicolas Cage come in. Due to some unfortunate events he becomes the new Ghost ...  Read the complete review

Crowned Review Ghost Rider - Extended Cut (DVD): Should You Rent-A-Ghost (Rider)? (1048 words)

*film only* The superhero film bandwagon has been trundling along for quite sometime now with little or no sign of it stopping. With films like ‘X Men 3’ making more money than ever and a summer that promises the third ‘Spiderman’ film, fans are in for a treat. Even the most hardened comic book hater could not begrudge the success of these colourful films as they bring well known and fantastic characters to life. However, with success comes copying and the barrel is looking mighty empty to studio execs who have not yet managed to buy the rights to a hero, so those films that are waiting to be made are likely to have less known protagonists. This has led to ...  Read the complete review
