Oh Gilmore Girls, how do I love you, let me count the ways!
Firstly - its the character work, Lorelai and Rory Gilmore are mother and daughter living in Stars Hollow in Conneticut where they have made a life for themselves after Lorelai gave birth to Rory at 16 and not wanting to live with her parents in Hartford anymore ran away.
The tiny hamlet is full of some interesting characters to say the least - there is Miss Patty the dance teacher who was once on Broadway darling! Taylor Doosey, town selectman/magistrate/leader of the council/owner of the grocery store etc. Luke Danes, the handsome brooding coffee shop owner with an attitude and a thing for Lorelai and Mrs Kim, owner of the antique shop and mother to Rory's best friend Lane.
The dialogue is genius. All of the characters talk quickly and with such intelligence, quoting pop references, films and much much more. I remember reading somewhere that the scripts are almost twice as long for a Gilmore Girls episode than any other 45 minute show.
The first series follows Rory as she enters Chiltern High School in order to increase her chances of getting into Harvard. But in order to pay for the private tuition Lorelai has to go cap in hand to her parents for the money. They agree, but only on condition that the girls agree to a weekly Friday night dinner at their house. THis is Loreai's parents cack handed way of trying to be a part of the girls lives.
So we follow the lives and loves of Lorelai and Rory as they negotiate first loves, friendships and school relationships. Please look at this it is so worth it!
Summary: Amazing show, I can't rate it high enough!!
