Advantages: music and storyline

Disadvantages: one poor scene in the middle

Maximus the Roman General is very successful. He commands the loyalty of his troops and the respect of the emperor Caesar. However, when the emperor names maximus as his successor instead of his son, his son kills him in his sleep and claims the thrown. Maximus is exiled and runs back to his homeland to find his wife and son killed. He is then picked up by an owner of a gladiator school. In the first games held in the Coliseum, maximus 'the spaniard' catches the eye of the emperor who then realises 'the spaniard' is in fact maximus. A one on one battle, in front of a packed coliseum, is then held to decide the rightful emperor. The outcome gives a truly moving moment which i have never found any other film could recreate.

I really do love this film, i could watch it over and over again and it is one of those rare films which doesn't lose its magic. The soundtrack by Hans Zimmer is one of my favorites and is iconic. It gives a fantastic sense of feeling throughout and and brought me to tears many times.

Truly fantastic film, worth every penny and fully deserves all the awards it won.
