Advantages: Powerful Movie

Disadvantages: Long movie

It’s been a while since there has been a Roman Epic. A lot of directors would have been put off taking on such a project as the earlier movies were all classics and still look good today.

Ridley Scott undertook this challenge and with the magnificent Russell Crowe as his title character produced a masterpiece of a movie. I am sure by now everyone will know the story of the film so I shall leave that topic from this opinion.

The DVD is well worth the money. With too many DVD's all you get as additional features are whatever the studio has lying around. With this version of Gladiator a real effort has been made to make the DVD worth buying because of the extras and not just because of the magnificent film. There is an entire DVD of extras including the original storyboards, deleted scenes, the making of, a documentary on Gladiators and many more.

The sound is exceptional on the DVD with full use of surround sound. This is the one aspect that normally disappoints me as I feel that great sound can add a lot to a film.

The images of the opening battle scene are incredible, as are the scenes in the Coliseum. This is a spectacular DVD which you will watch over and over again.

I would recommend it as the best DVD package I have found so far.

Go and buy it!

I read about this after I had purchased the DVD. I have not got round to watching the extras yet but I am as disgusted as anyone else that they used such footage. Not just as a Liverpool fan but as a normal person I can't see any reason for the footage being used.

Tommy, you're a Liverpool fan. I thought they had all boycotted the DVD of Gladiator due to Hillsborough footage being shown in a documentary on the DVD?
