Advantages: It's a great example of how not to make a film

Disadvantages: Watching it is a waste of time and money which could be spent on hallucinogens and Respighi's Roman Trilogy an have a better effect.

Come one, please tell me. What is so great about that film?

Mr Crowe isn't such a fantastic actor, your average root vegetable could achieve the same level of facial and physical expression as he did.

The computer generated graphics were extensively hyped up before the release, but most of the views of Rome looked like they had been painted on a screen at the back of the studio.

The music was appalling - the composer seeming to believe that simply by adding some choirs screeching in Latin he could create dramatic tension.

There was not a moment in the whole when I was allowed to slip into the film, to feel as if I was really there, because of the unrealistic haze the computer generated graphics gave everything and the appallingly vulgar, tacky soundtrack. Hams Zimmer should study some Respighi if he really wants to learn how to write decent Roman music.

Please, everybody calm down and face up to the awful reality of a shoddy overhyped movie.

I have a similar view about The Matrix, but slap some special effects in front of your usual cinema audience and they will lap it up. Having said that one of my favorite films is Star Wars (best sci-fi ever) but that relies on great music, imagination, performances and the watcher to be a bit sad.

I think you are a bit too negative about this movie, especially if you look at the average movie coming out of Hollywood these days. Personally, I liked the way they recreated Rome, especially since I saw the ruins there myself. Now I have something of an idea what it must have looked like back then.

You might question the movie, but really, only one star???
