My opinion should help convince you into watching this film. I was deperate to see this film when i came out but i tragically missed it. When i came out on dvd i was strait down the shops to by it. I was right to think that this is a great film and if you havn't seen it yet, this is a must.

If you haven't seen this film then you're missing out on one of the best films in the last decade. Russell Crowe stars as the main character with appearences from other stars such as Joaquin Phoenix and Oliver Reed. The speacial effects in this film are briliant and every part of the film is as realistic as it ever could be. The acting is superb, especially Russell Crowe. I enjoyed the film and could easily watch it again.

Russell Crowe stars as Maximus, a Roman general. Maximus is in charge of many battles, the emporer likes him and decides that Maximus is to become heir to the throne. But when the emporer tells his son of this, the son becomes jelous and ends up killing his father to become emporer. The new emporers army are sent to kill Maximus but he escapes and goes back to see his family, only to find that his wife and son have been murdered.
Maximus is forced into slavery and is sold to fight as a gladiator in the colosseums. As a fearceful leader he manages to survive brutal fights. But one day the emporer is watching a fight and wants to meet the gladiator who's called 'The Spaniard'. When he realises who he is, the emporer desperately wants him dead, but this will upset his people and he doesn't want to do that. So he finds other ways to get back as Maximus.

I won't say anymore because it may spoil the effect of the film.
There's quite a lot of blood in this film which is why it's a 15. It is definately worth while to watch it. It is a great historical film. Total Film called it "An Awesome Achievement". I love this film and i'm sure you will aswell!
