This was Pierce Brosnans first film in the role of Bond and at the time I thought he did a pretty good job however after the recent performance of Daniel Craig in he role I have tended to revise that view point. The film opens with Bond and another agent played by Sean Bean breaking into a chemical weapons plant in the Soviet Union intent on blowing it up. The mission goes wrong resulting in the death of Bean whilst ond escapes after detonating the bombs earlier than originally planned. This opening scene still shows the Bond franchise hung up on outrageous stunts that certainly stretch the limits of the viewers beleifs as Bond dives after a plummeting plane ... By 1995 the James Bond franchise had been absent from cinema screens for six years. Litigation over tv rights had delayed production and put the series into mothballs. The bleak outlook was exaccerbated by the less than astonishing box-office returns of 1989's Licence To Kill and a general feeling that Timothy Dalton was not a huge draw as Bond - especially in the important US market. In 1994 Dalton announced he did not wish to return to the role of 007. The gap between his last film was too long and he wished to move on. Whether he jumped or was pushed is another issue but Timothy was out. Enter 41 year-old Irish actor Pierce Brosnan. Brosnan had originally been cast as ... Read the complete review

Hello and welcome to my review of Pierce Brosnan’s first outing as James Bond in GoldenEye. I am reviewing the 1 Disc Edition release of the first film made after the six year hiatus. In the autumn of 1995, the 17th Bond film, GoldenEye, opened in the UK on 24th November. It was the first Bond film for six years and also one that seem to settle and resolve any outstanding issues and doubts that the franchise has encountered. When the Producers of the film finally got the go-ahead after the extremely court case regarding the rights of the Bond film was settled. A new film was green lighted for production. It was originally planned for Timothy Dalton to continue ... Read the complete review

The wall was down, the war was over, the need for spies? They were still there. Having just recently reviewed the game of the same name (one of my better reviews of recent times too) I thought I'd do the movie as well. This is a Film Only review. The last time we saw Bond, James Bond was in License To Kill back in 1989, then an overly long legal case effectively took James' license until Goldeneye brought the series back to life in 1995, the long duration between Bond movies. Not only had it been a while, but the actor (Timothy Dalton) had also changed (Dalton gave up the role) giving James another face. This time it was Irishman Pierce Brosnan ... This was the first in a series of Bond films for Pierce Brosnan and is my favourite by quite a distance out of all the Bond films he did. Bond had something of a falling reputation before Brosnan arrived with Timothy Dalton makes a lackluster Bond in the lackluster film a License To Kill. There were many skeptical people who did not want to see a James Bond film and thought that the franchise was past its sell by date but this movie and Brosnan's performance put all the doubts in the shade. For me Brosnan is my second favourite Bond after Sean Connery, just ahead of Roger Moore. Also I have not included Daniel Craig at all, as he was a great Bond in Casino Royale but ...
