Advantages: action packed

Disadvantages: predictable.

Nicolas Cage has always been one of my favourite actors and in this movie he plays a convicted car thief (Randall "Memphis" Raines) who after a spell in jail is attempting to go straight. The only problem is his younger brother who looks up to Randall and attempts to follow in his footsteps has found himself in the debt of an underworld figure and it falls on Cage to get him out of trouble.

Cage is given the job of stealing 50 high perforance cars in a single night and deliver them to the docks within a set deadline only then will his brother be spared. Cage has to set about putting together his old gang in a desperate attempt to save is brother. As if the odds are not already stacked against him he is also being pursued by the police in the form of Delroy Lindo and another car jacking gang who think he is muscling in on their territory.

Also starring in this film are a scary looking Angelina Jolie as a former girlfriend, Vinnie Jones as a mute hard man and Robert Duvall who deliveres a traditionally strong performance that you would expect from a seasoned pro.

This is a straight forward action movie, ideal for those who love to watch car chases or just drool over some top end cars. The acting will not set the world alight and the plot is not very complicated. Cage turns in a competent performance showing the passion for cars that his character has but skating over any other character traits.

The car chases are expertly shot with lots of noise and changing camera angles and a pretty good soundtrack. There are moments of humour such as the time Jones finds a snake is one of the cars that he has stolen.

The final car chase featuring a Shelby Mustang is pretty good although by this time you have already seen lots of car based action and it is beginning to become a bit predictable.

Perfect for petrol heads but not for anyone who wants to see character development and some emotion in the actors.

Summary: Car chase movie
