Advantages: Fun
Disadvantages: Shallow
This is clearly a 'popcorn' movie. But it's a good one. The plot is simple, but intriguing : Nick Cage (well, his character) has to steal cars to save his brother. 50 cars in one night. Blimey! The most obvious problem is the pace of the film. It starts off quite slowly. The director builds up all the history, and sets the scene for the second half of the film, but it just takes soooo long. The good bits (i.e the car chases) just don't come soon enough. Granted, much of this groundwork is needed, but when the fun started, it seemed to be over a bit too quickly. However, the parts are all acted brilliantly. Vinnie Jones' was wasted, though. Robert Duval, as usual, was great. My other complaint is the final car chase - I don't think I've ever seen such a blatant display of "oh, well, lets not worry about physics" Hmmmm, I seem to have done very little other than complain. I did enjoy this film, actually. It's a perfectly good way of spending a couple of hours. Just don't expect anything deep or brilliant.
