High-octane escapism... (Gone in Sixty Seconds (DVD))
Member Name: Flodum
Advantages: Escapism, action, crashes, cars, ladies, nice one... and Vinny Jones does a nice cameo as Sphinx Disadvantages: Silly plot, but who gives a monkey's?
This is surely what going to the cinema is all about - you can forget the trials of real life and immerse yourself in 90 minutes of car chases, explosions and general escapism! This is a quality, high-budget action flick with big-name stars like Nicolas Cage, Robert Duvall and the gorgeous Angeline Jolie, and even though the plot is frankly ridiculous, who cares? If I wanted realism I'd have gone to see another film... suffice to say, Cage is a reformed car thief whose brother has got in a lot deeper than he can handle with a Mr Big from abroad (Chris Eccleston, of BBC serial drama fame...) and Cage has to come out of retirement to fulfil his brother's tasks, namely stealing 50 cars in one night. He gets his old team back together for the job, and then the action really gets going as his nemesis, a copper played by Delroy Lindo, starts to get wind of what is going on and tries to stop this night of grand larceny. Basically, if you liked Bruckheimer's other efforts, such as Con Air, you will love this, just seeing all those fabulous motors (which you know you will never get to drive!) is enough to put a big smile on your face. Excellent action, and thoroughly good fun! Summary: |
