Advantages: Nicolas.......Nicolas.... ..Nicolas

Disadvantages: None for me, but mindless action movie for some :)

Before I start the review, I will admit that in my eyes Nicolas Cage can do no wrong. My family and friends believe I would sit and watch him singing nursery rhymes, and think it was Oscar worthy!

Gone In 60 Seconds is a remake of a 1974 film, and is directed by Dominic Sena, who directed the road movie "Kalifornia" starring Brad Pitt. This is also another film from the Jerry Bruckheimer camp, which has released some great action films in the last decade. The scripwriter, Scott Rosenberg is the man behing "Con Air", so expect some of the same here. The combination means that we will have lots of fire, lots of action, and Nic will look magnificent doing whatever he does.

Nicolas is Randall Raines, also known as Memphis, and in the past, he was respected as the best "booster" (car thief) in California. He decided to retire at his mother's request, as she did not want his brother copying him, and he moved away.

One day, he is approached by an associate of Raymond Calitri (Christopher Eccleston), as his brother Kip (Giovanni Ribsi) has been boosting cars for Calitri and has messed up big style. Calitri demands that Memphis fulfils Kip's contract by stealing 50 top of the range cars. The catch is that there is only 3 days to do it in or his brother will die. In this time, Memphis has to put a crew together and avoid an old nemesis, in a policeman played by Delroy Lindo.

Memphis' crew includes Sway (Angelina Jolie) who is Memphis' ex and there is a lot of tension between them. Atlee Jackson (Will Patton) has been working with Kip. Otto (Robert Duvall)is another booster gone straight with his own garage, but agrees to help. Sphinx (Vinnie Jones), a mute muscleman with a big temper. They decide to boost all 50 cars in 1 night, as in case you have not guessed, the title of the film refers to how long it takes to boost a car.

As expected there are some spectacular car chases, but as som
eone not really into cars I could appreciate their beauty as much as some.

Cage has really become a very versatile actor, and a very bankable leading man, although he is not everyone's cup of tea. Jolie is enjoyable, and plays the moody character a little too well. I am a fan of English actor Eccleston, and had my doubts as to whether he could carry off the role of villian, but he does so with ease.

I admit this film is no masterpiece, and it delivers what it promises, lots of cars, loud music, and the quota of action scenes. That does not make it a bad film though.

If you are looking for a film that has been made for pure entertainment value then look no further.

I was a bit disappointed with the 'flatness' of the plot at times, but like you, in my eyes Nicolas can do no wrong so I would still watch it again! Good op - you managed to write without spoiling any of the plot.
