Gone In 60 Seconds Buena Vista International US 2000 1hr 53mins Starring Nicholas Cage, Angelina Jolie, Giovanni Ribsi and James Duval Directed by Dominic Sena Already wildly profitable in the US, this remake of the cult '74 movie is action packed. Here's the story - 'Memphis' Raines (Cage) has long since abandoned his former life of crime - but in order to save his little brother, (Ribsi), from a fate worse than a concrete overcoat, he has to do the bad thing one more time. In this case the bad thing is stealing 50 cars - in one night. With the additional complication that the cars are already on someone else's shopping list. Hollywood Hot Property Angelina Jolie plays Cage's girlfriend Sway (Sway - for god's sake! What sort of name is Sway?) Anyway, boy racers might be disappointed with the ratio of drama to car chases, but I found it quite attention grabbing. Cage is always interesting if sometimes uncomfortable to watch. Oh yes, and budding thespian Vinny Jones turns in a more than adequate performance. (Is that how you spell Vinny? - I don't follow football but I definitely wouldn't want to offend him). Probably not as good as the box office returns suggest but certainly watchable. And anyway, it'll be school holidays in a minute - you're lucky to get a film for grown ups.
