Advantages: Fast action packed fun

Disadvantages: Absolutely nothing

I'm a sucker for no-brainers, thats why when walking round our local Blockbuster when I noticed the case for Gone in 60 seconds, I felt my heart miss a beat for a second, even better one of the best actors on this planet was in it - Nicholas Cage, a fun-filled time had by all right? indeed!!

Quick run-down of the plot - don't worry about any spoiling going on here, all this becomes obvious in the first 20 minutes of the movie anyway - Kip Raines (Giovanni Ribisi) has gotten himself into a little trouble after taking on and failing a job for Raymond Calitri (Christopher Eccleston) in which he had to steal 50 cars by next monday, so he needs bailing out and bailing out fast as well. Enter Randall "Memphis" Raines (Nicholas Cage), Kips older brother and now a retired car-thief, formerly the best in the business hes the only person who can get Kip out of this.

Next thing we know, the task is back on - 50 cars in 78 hours, of course Randall can't do this alone, so along the way to stealing the cars he picks up a few comrades - most notable appearances are The Sphinx (Vinnie Jones), Sway (Angelina Jolie) and Otto Halliwell (Robert Duvall). Now there are plenty of other characters in the movie, its just these are your main players.

One thing that will shock my regular readers is that there isn't going to be a cast-list in this little piece of writing, why? well A. theres too many different cast members and B. this isn't a movie where acting is vital, its an action movie, I've said it before I'll say it again - in Action movies, its not the talents of the cast that count, its how good the effects look on screen.

So what can I ramble on about instead, how about how the movie works? Well its a fast-paced action packed little blighter I can tell you that much for sure, well it ain't gonna be slow is it - its a movie about stealing cars, and I don't know about you lot but if I was going to steal
a car I think I might drive a few mph over the speed limit, but still the whole feel of the movie is right, this isn't one of those movies where you'll find yourself mulling over why something happens, it just happens.

A little bit about the acting - well this is all about a movie after all, its satisfactory for an Action movie, there isn't any extra-special performances in here, the cast do work it well, and as much as there aren't any extra-special performances here, there aren't any terrible performances either, nobody seems out of place and its all acted out very 'swish' indeed.

Ooooooh theres a bit of a soundtrack here, big name performers like Moby, Apollo 440 and Method Man from the Wu-Tang Clan, all of it music to steal cars by, again fast-paced, racy and damn good - still its the music of the late 90's/early 2000 so if the recent types of music hitting the market isn't your style, then guess what - you like the backing music to this movie either. Anyhow it does appear to be that none of the music is out of place, and theres never any scenes that are left begging for a piece of music to accompany them.

Directing style, well its Dominic Sena this time who took on the bulk of this job, and this is something that an action movie needs, a good director, if it doesn't get it everything will look out of place, and believe me Sena's done a brilliant job here, making one of the best Action movies I've seen in a long time!

So Final Analysis? We like it, We like it a lot, In fact I'm already hunting out that DVD release date, its a no-brainer yes, but thats not a bad thing, so go rent it, sit back, stop thinking and enjoy.

I saw this recently - it was quite enjoyable, but a few scenes made me cringe like when Nicholas Cage's character was running his hands over and talking to the most difficult car that he wanted to steal it was a case of pass the sick bag - please!

Car chases, wonderful car chases! This has made up for the lack of proper car chases in films for the past couple of years! :-)
