Advantages: Produced by Bruchheimer (the Rock)

Disadvantages: It is a remake.

After taking a quiet couple of years to relax Nicolas Cage is back, nephew to Francis Ford Coppola and guaranteed box-office hit, in whichever movie he is in. This movie sounds good all ready, but it gets even better, produced by none other than Jerry Bruckheimer, the man who brought us the classics, the best of the best in movies, Top Gun (1986), Days of Thunder (1990), The Rock (1996) and Con Air (1997). Then you have the added bonus of sexy Angelina Jolie.
The plot is so simple your Grandma wouldn’t even get confused. Cage’s brother has gotten into trouble with a mob boss and will be killed unless his brother steals 50 all-time classic cars in one night. Cage then summons up a gang to help him. They consist of quite a couple of familiar faces, Vinnie Jones, Robert Duvall and Angelina Jolie. Of course in the movie Cage has got a thing Jolie.
The first third the movie is pretty dull planning the robbery and the odd joke here and there. I’m almost tempted to switch of this dull thing, but then when the robbery starts to happen, it seems to have redeemed itself. Just looking at the cars itself is enough to keep you on the edge of your seat. Then the final car chase is just sheer utter brilliance matching the chases in ‘Ronin’ and ‘The Blue Brothers’.
Overall it scrapes into a four star category with a likable soundtrack this film is well very likable (joke). Bruckheimer has yet another hit to add onto his list. It is true that the car chases do cover up some of the acting skills, and Vinnie does not say one word until the end. The movie shows what Summer Blockbusters really are, big budget movies with corny jokes.
