Advantages: See a lot of cool cars, See the cars go very fast, It is only 100 minutes

Disadvantages: It's a no brainer, It's a hash job, It might reduce your intelligence

60 seconds is not far off what it might have taken the producer, Jerry Brukheimer (of Con Air, Pearl Harbour fame) to put together this action packed farce. A re-hash of a formerly unknown B-movie this has all the signs of "how to make a quick buck" project.

The anorexic plot puts Nicholas Cage up against the clock to steal a ludicrous number of cars to save his younger brother Giovanni Ribinisi from certain death, following his failure to deliver on a deal to wood obsessed (I kid you not) car smuggling Christopher Eccleston.

Throw in a team of new and old jackers, a cop for years on Cage's trail, Angelina Jolie for the love interest and Robert Duvall for the acting heavy weight and you have yourself 100 minutes of motion picture.

Wrap it all around some nice but nothing special car chases, a few decent songs, a leather jacket for Cage and of course some decent photography of classic cars and voila.

You might just get the same content from a Top Gear magazine (I wouldn't know, I don't read it) but at least you get to see the nice production logo for Brukheimer of the opening shot of a highway and the lightning on the tree.

And before I am chastised for not mentioning Vinnie Jones, he is in the movie doing what he should always do, saying nothing and looking mean. This is afterall, the extent of his talent.

It's brash, it's brian dead, its all American and it's getting more and more popular with time.

Now I've been accused of reading into the film too much. Of course films don't always need the best of everything but let me put it this way. There are thousands upon thousands of scripts out there that will never get made. Some are no doubt awesome. And yet Hollywood insists on allocating budgets to what they call "a safe spender." 60 seconds could have been so much better. The idea is sound. It's the execution that sucks.

To many people take films so seriously. Plot and script aren't as important as fun and entertainment all the time. I do agree that this is a quick cash in but the action and cars make up for it. Although there are some real big errors in the filming it doesn't bother me. I would give 2 stars purely for the action and maybe another 1 for Angelina so thats 3 stars from me.

short op though potent. I have so much respect of your honesty and agree with you entirely. how many words does it take to say this film is crap. nice one.
