I saw this movie advertised on the TV saying it was out on video and it looked impressive. So I bought it. Simple as that. When I watched it, it struck me as being a great movie, not just a good movie.

I am sure you've read a whole host of these opinions by now, so you know what happens, but I'll give you a brief synopsis:
Randall 'Memphis' Raines is a retired car 'booster' (that's a high class car thief to you and I), but is called back one last time to rescue his little brother, Kip (Giovanni Ribisi - better known as Phoebe's brother, Frank, in Friends) who has got himself in a spot of bother with the local gangster.

His mission to save his brother (and himself) from certain death? Steal (or 'boost') 50 high class cars from wherever they are tracked down and deliver them to a dock. Sounds like a piece of cake for our resident booster, but there is a drawback - he only has 4 days in which to do it.

So, the plot continues with Memphis tracking down his old crew and searching out the said 50 cars which takes 3 days , and doing the boosts with the help of his cohorts in the last 12 hours.

What follows is an insight into how I imagine real professional car theives do their work - with impressive accuracy and timing, though I'm not condoning it obviously, but there is a pang of jealousy when you see how they do it then drive around in these great cars......

There are a few comedy moments, one in particular (as the title of this op suggests) when a police jeep gets pushed through a wall with the help of a wrecking ball. The driver is not hurt, though very shaken (natch), when one of the two cops in the movie opens the door and says "are you OK?", "Er, yeah, I think so..." replies the wall busting jeep cop, "Are you sure? 'Cause you just went through a wall!" replies the sardonic rookie! That was my comedy moment, but there are others, but this
film is centred on the boosting attempts of Memphis trying to save his brother. In the final scenes, we are treated to Memphis boosting his 'holy grail' - a 1967 sports car that he has never quite managed to nick before. What follows is a high octane car chase through the streets of LA which is really well done.

Other cast members include Angelina Jolie (looking gorgeous!), Robert Duvall and Vinnie Jones! Vinnies' role is non-speaking, but he carries the character of 'Sphinx' off very well with his own brand of attitude and fighting! When he finally does make an utterance at the end.....well, you'll just have to watch it won't you!

Overall then, a great movie which can be watched several times without getting boring. Good value at 113 minutes (just under 2 hours) with an extra 20 minutes of bonus footage with the director, Jerry Bruckheimer showing various behind the scenes stuff.

Saw this movie on the big screen and was impressed. Also impressed yet again by Vinnies acting abilities, even in a non-speaking role.

Great Op!
