Staring Vinnie Jones and Nicolas Cage ‘Gone in 60 seconds’ is a high speed film with not much of a story, if you love cars this is the film for you. Written by Jerry Bruckheimer he has written previously Flashdance, Top Gun and Days of Thunder all very big grossing films for the American Market. Based on a B-movie by actor, writer, director and stuntman H.B.Halicki who died whilst making the sequel.

As Tom Cruise once put it ‘I feel the need the need for speed’. If Bruckheimer had not used this line previously it would have most certainly been used here. Memphis Raines (Nicolas Cage) is a retired car thief who ‘pumps gas’ at a petrol station in Florida. Memphis younger brother Kip (Giovanni Ribisi) owes money to a crook Calitri (Christopher Eccleston) and hence Calitri uses this to get Memphis to do a job for him, otherwise his brother is going in the car crusher.

Memphis has to get his old gang or rather what is left of his old gang together to steel fifty cars in one night. One of his gang Sway (Angelina Jolie) is Memphis’s old flame and features in a sub-story. Otto (Robert Duvall) is the old man of the group and Vinnie Jones is the mute brute Sphinx.

From the start Memphis is warned by detectives Castlebeck & Drycof (Delroy Lindo & Timothy Olyphant) that he is on to them and it does not take them long to relaise what’s going on. So when the big night of theft begins they watch some cars that have been traced by stolen duplicate keys, but Memphis sees the police in surveilence. What happens then is a wild car chase, which is quite entertaining.

The film is based on the line that the are stealing the cars out of loyalty for Memphis kid brother and not for the money and gets a bit over the top on this at times. But as I said earlier if you enjoy ramp jumps, helicopters, explosions, smashing buses and reverse driving this may be the film for you.

Good op - haven't seen the film yet but still plan on watching it soon - sure it won't be long before it comes to Sky Premier, so i'll wait till then!

i loved this film, mainly because of Nick Cage. However i finally found a film that me and my boyfriend both love - doesn't happen very often! Good op!

Good op, was going to see this when it was at the cinema but decided to wait and get it on video. Looks like I made the right choice. :)
