Advantages: Exciting, Sexy cars, Very entertaining
Disadvantages: Basic plot
As action movies go, this is fantastic entertainment - car chases, fights, explosions and tongue-in-cheek humour. If you are expecting a great plot and Oscar winning performances, you'll be disappointed, but that's not what this film, and others like it, are about. The plot: Nicholas Cage is a retired car thief. His younger brother (who you may recognise as Phoebe's brother from Friends!) follows in his footsteps, but messes up a big deal for the villain, known as The Carpenter. So, he threatens to kill Cage's brother unless he steals 50 top of the range cars in three days. As it turns out, after recruiting several of his old 'colleagues' (including Angelina Jolie and Vinnie Jones) they have only 24 hours to complete the job. And that's where the movie really kicks into gear. The cars are gorgeous, the thefts exciting and of course there are the police and rival gangs to throw a few spanners in the works. I've yet to speak to anyone who hasn't enjoyed this movie, so if you want to be entertained, give it a whirl.

- 09/08/01 Great film, not a bad review though could have done with being a little bit more in-depth. Alan |
