Advantages: great action, good story, LOVELY cars!
Disadvantages: slightly bad acting sometimes
How long will it take you to read this opinion? More than 60 seconds?......in that time your car is gone. Nicholas Cage Plays Memphis Raines, a reformed booster who gave up for the sake of his younger brother Kip, who his mother thought was sure to follow in his footsteps. left his friends and family behind, moved out of long beach and earned an honest living. 6 years later, he found out all that was for nothing. His brother messed up a boost, and Raymond Calitri, new top man in long beach, had given him the job. He was not happy and so called in Memphis in a basic 'do this job or your brother dies' storyline. So he calls in all the old gang, including (vinnie jones) and they get to work. And the task?......steal 50 cars in 3 days. The first 49 seem to be done fairly effortlessly, although there are a few amusing hitch-ups, such as the dog eating 3 merc keys, people having sex in front of the window when the car is outside, this bit is particularly good as it shows cage and jolie (sway, ex girl of memphis) sitting in their car, waiting for the two people to stop having sex, and they get a little intimate themselves. His 'dirty talk' in sway's ear is along the lines of 'fuel injection, high performance, V-12 engine'. kinky. Basically, they get the first 49 onto the containers at the docks, and then there is one left. The '67 Shelby Mustang GT 500. One hell of a nice car. 0-190 in around 10 seconds. wow. memphis calls her eleanor. This one is for memphis. he has had problems with her in the past, and this time.....well, i dont want to spoil it but it is one of the best pieces of car chase driving i have seen in a long time. Check out the reversing scene, god damn fantastic!! The police are one step behind them all the way and at the end, well....watch it and see. The film features some of the nicest cars around, obviously the '67 shelby, but this car is so hy
ped up (and so it should be!) in the movie that other great cars are slightly ignored. You've got your usual run of the mill mercedes and BMW's, but even boxters look crap in this film! Look out for the '67 Ferrari 265 GTB4 or the 550 Maranello. Old classics like the '56 T bird and '50 Mercury, and then the obvious choices, such as the Testarosa. And the action scenes are fantastic. check out the Shelby on the bridge. All in all, even though the storyline is not 100% fantastic, its not crap either. And the cars, driving and the sheer brilliance of their boosting makes up for all the dodgy bits that are quite funny, but i dont think they are meant to be! really good film, really nice cars, definitely worth a watch.
