Advantages: Great action sequences., Talented cast.

Disadvantages: Poor script and ridiculous plot.

For adrenaline-junkies everywhere - this is the film for you. Nicolas Cage's laid back style contrasts to great effect with the sensational action sequences, including a car being smashed through a brick wall and another jumping over a que of traffic. It is these sequences, along with the soundtrack (which includes Moby and Machismo), which makes this film what it is - an action packed spectacular. This, however, is all it is. The script is certainly not a classic and the plot is fantastic (in the sense that it could never really happen).

The plot itself is as follows. Nic Cage stars as Randall "Memphis" Raines, a retired car thief, who hears that his brother (played very well by Giovanni Ribisi - probably most well known as Phoebe's brother in Friends) will be killed by a sadistic mobster (played by an englishman of course!) unless he steals 50 cars for him in the space of a few days. After he has assembled his old crew, including Angelina Jolie, Vinnie Jones!, and the superb Robert Duvall, the time is down to 24 hours. He also has to deal with the attentions of Delroy Lindo's ruthless detective, out to finally catch him in the act. That's as complex as it gets!

The all-star cast make this film immediately attractive for the viewer. The action sequences and the very nice cars are also a bonus. As I have said though the script and plot don't do the actors justice. Despite this I still highly recommend this film for all lovers of the action genre. It has a 15 certificate so isn't really suitable for young children due to the violence (and the small matter of car theft being glorified!).
