Advantages: Monstor Motors, Good cast, Banging Sounds

Disadvantages: Lack of plot?, FIFTY CARS IN 3 NIGHTS!

A roaring engine has more beautiful sounds in my opinion then the Royal appointed orchestra. It holds so much potential, so much stature and promise that one cannot possibly deny the inevitability, testing the car.
Gone in Sixty Seconds sees us follow Memphis Raines on a dynamic heist to steal fifty cars, the reason being to save his brother, Kip. Memphis had worked the crime scene until his mother advised him to leave it so that his brother Kip wouldn’t follow his path. Sadly that happened and Kip went the boosting way also.
A new guy arrives in their city, his name is Raymond Calitri and he isn’t a nice man. He runs the shots around the city and gives out the orders for the theft of cars in his area. Kip decides to take a job but screws it up which is where the film begins.
Memphis is informed, from his new location, of the trouble Kip has caused himself and so heads back to try and help. When he arrives, Raymond Calitri tells him that Kip screwed up on one of his jobs. Memphis offers the ten grand to try and resolve but after hearing of Memphis’s reputation Calitri only wants his expertise. Memphis has the choice, resort to car theft that he vowed he’d never do again, or see his brother killed at the arms of the British Calitri. He decides to take the job of stealing fifty cars and this is the films plot.
The plot and story may not deserve an Oscar but it is there and it keeps the film together. What makes this film so high in my standards is the car scenes. If you like cars, or even remotely interested in anything that moves you will probably find this film a cracker. The motors are rare and exquisite with each one a little beauty in the motor industries eyes. With Ferrari’s, Lamborghini’s, Mercedes, Mustang and many other great cars including the legendary 1967 Shelby GT. 500! Being an avid car fan I literally drooled upon hearing the cars engine ticking over, call me an obsessive if you must but w
ho cares!
Any action fan will like this film too, the constant hostility of the law enforcement officers hot on his heels, He doesn’t need to do the work alone though, oh no far from it. Memphis makes a few phone calls and manages to round up a few old criminals that will help him on his way. These aren’t low down dirty crooks though with the likes of Angelina Jolie playing , I wouldn’t mind being robbed.
The acting is sheer brilliant in the way these people could actually be true thieves. Each actor/actress playing their part in their special style it comes together like a jigsaw piece. Each member of the team adds their part to the film that you will find an interesting side to all of them.
With handy tools to get them through the robberies these guys know their stuff. They battle on as a team and whether success follows, you’ll have to find out.
As I said earlier there are many different genres to this film: Action is present throughout, then the hidden agendas with slight romance and comedy in some thrown in gags. The film does have bits beyond possible but that adds to the action.
With a banging soundtrack to back with the likes of Rap and Hip hop holding poll position you’ll be urging the film on, until its peak, The Shelby Gt. 500, I say no more. Go get ‘em.
