Advantages: Good action, lots of good shots and fast moving

Disadvantages: Little problems with the story

The title may be gone in 60 seconds, and though the film lasts a lot longer that that, the fast paced action may well make the time fly by.

Nicholas Cage is Memphis Rains who is a car thief at the top of his profession. He is now retired, but is forced back into the business when the bond of brotherly love calls for him. His little brother Kip (Giovanni Ribisi) has got in a spot of bother when a job fails, so the bad guys take his hostage. For his safe return Memphis has to steal a total of 50 cars within 72 hours, no more or no less in the exact time. In return he gets his brother and a reward of $2,000.

It’s not just about the money, and he goes through a lot all to save his brothers neck. Once more this is not an ordinary job where they get any car they care, this is meticulously planned to get top of the range cars to go with their shopping list. Memphis gets his old gang back together for the job, and go out on what may seem mission impossible. It all gives an excuse for several car chases, evading cops and generally Hollywood style big action and little filler movie. There are obviously several car chases, as the police get on the tail of some of the cars, and Memphis has a long battle which has one of the best action moments of the film as he runs away in the final car stretching to meet the deadline. Up and down, with plenty of action to keep you entertained in here.

The story line is not the best part of this, Memphis starts to have a love interest during the job and that all ends up happily ever after, and the main thing is about the morals involved. Memphis goes back to help his younger brother when he needs it, despite saying he quite. They almost manage to get the idea that the robbery of 50 cars is ok, so long as you do it for the right reasons. Not to be tried at home though. Cage also come up in the end with another problem, he saves the leading cop that comes onto him by instinctively hitting a bad guy t
o his death, and as a result the issue is pressed no further. Memphis is coming across in a very good light, he makes all the right decisions and has his hearth in the right place, but just happens to be a car thief.

Vinny Jones is in the film, he plays a hard but dumb member of the gang. When I say dumb it could mean anything, but especially in the sense he cannot talk. At least you cannot criticise his for his acting, he does play the role of the hard man well, ask anyone who has played against him and you will know. Otherwise the cast is great, Cage is the star, while his younger brother is meant to be a bit wild but in the right place, and there are some funny moments.

The DVD of course makes all the actions and effects come across crystal clear, as well as great sound. The extras include trailers, interview with the director Jerry Bruckenheimer, music video and five different features inside the film, especially the special effects. Good enough, it is worth the DVD if you have the technology for all the stunts involved here it is a good one to test it out.

Overall a good film, that is full of action and some spectacular shots. Two hours of high paced fun, worth looking at if that sort of big money and big stunts action is for you, though it lacks a little

Sorry for the low rating, but I think you need to say more about the special features on the DVD to make this a more rounded DVD opinion.

Good film that you don't have to think about too much when you've had a hard day's work. Good review.
