Advantages: Good action
Disadvantages: Lightweight
Here we have another Jerry Bruckheimer summer action blockbuster. He did The Rock and Con Air with Nic Cage, and now the duo team up again for Gone in 60 Seconds. It's an action caper flick - where the crims have to to steal 50 cars to save Cage's brother's life. It is quite a thin idea, and maybe this is the problem with the whole film. There are some great car chases and action scenes, but overall it just seems a bit of a thin premise, and you never really care. We see Vinnie Jones as the mute Sphinx, and he is a great physical prescence, showing that Lock Stock wasn't a fluke. Angelina Jolie is a gorgeous car mechanic - and the love interest, and she is pretty good. Cage is also on good form, as is Giovanni Ribisi (Phoebe's brother in friends) as another member of the gang. I suppose this makes a good popcorn movie to go and see with a few mates, but you probably won't see it twice. Lightweight entertainment.

- 30/07/00 Do you think Cage will make a decent film soon. I thought this was another average movie that mostly appeals to the male generation. |
