Advantages: Some good songs, Mostly good acting
Disadvantages: Some boring songs, Maxwell Caulfield!
Grease 2 is a great film, but it really isn't nearly as good as Grease. However, as long as you don't try and compare the two too much, I think you'll enjoy it! The story is set in 1961, 2 years after the original Grease gang graduated from Rydell High. The main characters are Michael, Stephanie and Johnny. Stephanie is the leader of the Pink Ladies, and Johnny is the leader of the T Birds. They used to go out, but Stephanie "outgrew him over the summer". Michael Carrington is Sandy's cousin, a straight-A student from England. As soon as Michael sets eyes on Stephanie he falls madly in love with her. But she isn't interested - she wants a "cool rider" not "the boy next-door" (cue song!) So Michael changes into a leather-wearing biker for her (must run in the family...!) The cast act and sing mostly well, but I don't think Maxwell Caulfield (Michael) fits with the rest of the cast. I'm not sure why! It think that it's because he just has no charm! The others are great, though. Lorna Luft (Judy Garland's daughter, by the way!) is very good as Paulette. There are some great songs, but some very boring ones too. "Score Tonight" and "Back to School" will stick in your head all day, but "Charades" and "Turn Back the Hands of Time" are enough to get you out of your seat and searching for the remote so you can fast forward! The songs are mostly sang well. Michelle Pfiffer (Stephanie) Adrian Zmed (Johnny) and Peter Frenchette (Louis) are particularly good. But the songs don't really have very much to do with the plot. In Grease, there were songs about what Frenchy should do when she'd left Beauty school, Rizzo's feelings about getting pregnant, and about how Danny and Sandy met at the beach. Though the songs in Grease 2 are mostly great, they're just about bowling or reproduction! The scri
pt has some funny parts, and some people might prefer it to that of Grease as it has less swears and references to sex! However, some people might find the song "Reproduction" a bit offensive! Overall, I'd say that though Grease 2 lacks the timelessness and originality of Grease, it's still a good film, and I would recommend it!
