Advantages: Interesting
Disadvantages: Timothy can be annoying
In October 2003 Timothy Treadwell and his girlfriend, Amie Huguenard were killed and eaten by a very unfriendly grizzly bear while resting at their camp site.
Timothy Traedwell had been journeying to Alaska for a few years and spent his time living in the wild with the animals, while he studied the Grizzly Bears his most beloved and favourite animal there. It would not be too far to say he was besotted with them and felt that he needed to protect them from poachers and the ever increasing enemies they had no matter what it might cost him.
This was successful for him and for years he recorded his adventures with the bears and the natural world around him and eventually that same recording device that gave us 100's of hours of footgae of Timothy, would record the sound of his and Amie's death by a rogue bear who entered the territory from afar.
I was intrigued about this documentary as it sounded horrendous and crazy all at the same time and I am glad I wanted it, however, I can't help feeling Timothy was a little too eccentric on video. He was all "little girl laughs" and "baby talk" when he was talking to the bears and at first it was funny but just got annoying after a while.
The narrater, Werner Herzog, goes through the video's with a very uncanny voice resemblance to Arnold Swarzenegger, which again makes it hard to focus on the serious side to this film.
However, it was interesting and I didn't get bored. If you like nature programmes you might like this but be warned, there isn't really that much footage of the bears. It is more the story of Timothy and accordingly he dominates the screen.
Summary: RECOMMENDED xx
