Guess Who (DVD) ... DVD released 12 September, 2005 at 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment / Features of the DVD: Anamorphic, PAL / Taken on its own terms as a big-screen sitcom, Guess Who offers plenty of humor with just enough social commentary to make its point without being preachy. Of course, we've come along way since interracial romance was such a hot-button issue in Stanley Kramer's earnest 1967 drama Guess Who's Coming To Dinner, and nobody's going to mistake Ashton Kutcher and Bernie Mac (in this updated semi-remake) with the original film's Sidney Poitier and Spencer Tracy. And that's fine, because Guess Who--from the director of Barbershop 2--doesn't pretend to be anything more than a slick, entertaining vehicle for domestic farce with the racial roles reversed. Kutcher's romance with an African-American beauty (Zoë Sandaņa) causes sparks to fly when he's introduced to her father (Bernie Mac). What ensues is basically an interracial buddy comedy that's as uninspired as it is easy to watch, and there's a dinner-table scene that's refreshingly provocative in this movie's otherwise tamely cautious context. We can all be thankful that humanity has matured a little since the racial tensions of the late '60s, but Hollywood's progress (and Kutcher's career) remains subject to debate. --Jeff Shannon

... casting of Ashton Kutcher playing himself - a two dimensional cardboard cut out character. The goggle-eyed Bernie Mac (an excellent radical black comedian from Saturday Night Live) is much livelier on screen and looks unsure throughout this if he could improvise and let rip on the white folks in the movie that tackles subjects like inter-race relationships he's so hot on in his stage act. I think it would have been a far sharper film if he had. There are some moments in this that are interesting and not what you were expe...more

I bought this dvd almost two months back and it costed me $25. I must say this movie was great and the money was well spent. I collect alot of movies specially comedy, and this was a great addition to my list. In this comedic retelling of 'Guess Who's coming to Dinner?', Percy Jones (Bernie Mac) is taking no chances with his daughter Thersa (Zoe Sladana) and her future. Even before he meets Simon Green, her latest boyfriend, Percy has him checked out. On paper, he passes with flying colours - great job, goo investments and a promising future, not like the other losers she's dated in the past. But there's one thing in the credit report didn't tell him. Simon ...

A lot has changed since Katherine Houghton brought Sidney Poitier home to meet Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy in the 1967 classic, 'Guess Who's Coming to Dinner'. As modern America is about to elect a black president and so much more relaxed about inter-racial relationships then why not a spot of role reversal some 40 years on with a white guy, Ashton Kutcher the partner-in-come, here visiting his girlfriends black middle class family for the time, they oblivious to his skin color before the meet etc. It's a good idea in principal and with the success of Meet the parents this century I gave it a look, but I quickly found out why I hadn't rented it before and waited ...

Theresa Jones is looking forward to taking boyfriend Simon home to meet her parents. The only problem is, the Jones are black and Simon is white....and Theresa hasn't thought to share this with her parents. And Simon hasn't thought to tell Theresa that he has just resigned from his job. Her father is horrified and tries his hardest to separate the happy couple, which leads to some embarrassing moments for both him and Simon. Will Mr Jones manage to split the couple up, or will they convince him to accept that they love each other? I'm not a huge fan of Ashton Kutcher, who plays Simon. I don't think he is a bad actor, he just isn't that good either and were he ...
