What can i say, i love this movie. Before the movie came out i heard that Waters was making a family movie about dancing and i thought hed lost it (Waters is most famous for the cult classic "Pink Flamingos"), but when the movie was released i was relived, it is an brilliant parody of 60's american dance programmes like (american bandstand etc). The film stars Divine (who is on fine form in one of her/his last screen roles), Ricki Lack (before the talk show), Collen Fitzpatrick (who in now singer Vitamic c), and features great cameos from the likes of Deborah harry, Sonny Bono, Ruth Brown, Pia Zadora and the great Mink Stole. John Waters, who is known for making films such as Pink Flamingoes, broke into a more mainstream with this look at the early 60's in America, racial issues, and our affinity to have the most ridiculously high hair of anyone else. This was Divine's last film and she/he performs the dual role as Ricki Lake's mother, and one of the villains of the film (yes he appears out of drag). It also has Debra Harry, Sony Bono, and the blues singer Ruth Brown. The story is about a young girl, Ricki Lake, an average white teenager who wants nothing more than to dance on a local TV show.
