Just when you thought it was safe to ‘Trick or Treat’, Michael Myers is back again terrorising the small town of Haddonfield, and haunting our screens. I have always been a fan of the Halloween movies. I remember watching the original Halloween by John Carpenter at 15 when I was babysitting and being absolutely petrified. Although the film made me jump all over the place, since then I have always remained an avid fan of Michael Myers. John Carpenter brought the Original Halloween to our screens in 1978, and although only a low budget film it immediately went down as a ‘horror fan favourite’. Since then, the film has spawned 7 ... For some time now, Rob Zombie's take on slasher classic Halloween has been at the centre of quite a furore. You'd be forgiven for thinking that many of the hate mail posted on many blog and film discussion forums came from people who had viewed the film. Not so, because Halloween has only just skewered its way into theatre's in America and Britain. John Carpenter's low budget slasher film paved the way for 7 sequels (of which, only two were more than watchable), and a myriad of imitations. Michael Myers himself is one of a triplet of horror heavy-weights of the 80s. Freddy Kruegar and Jason Vorheers are keeping it respectable by threatening to appear in sequels, rather ... It is now 29 years since John Carpenter originally came out with his haunting 'Halloween' film, during which time there have been many sequels released (7 in total) and countless copycat films. The last film in the series was Rick Rosenthal's disappointing 2002 release 'Halloween Resurrection'. Michael Myers no longer seemed scary, and the 'Halloween' series seemed to be on its last legs. On the 4th of June 2006 it was announced that Rob Zombie would begin work on the next instalment in the series; a remake of the original 1978 film. Zombie would write, direct, produce, and serve as music supervisor also in order to reinvent the character of Michael Myers and once more ... Read the complete review

Directed by Rob Zombie, the 2007 film HALLOWEEN is a remake of the original 1978 version by John Carpenter. Carpenter’s film is a renowned classic of the slasher horror genre, kickstarting a type of movie which continues to this day with the likes of SAW and HOSTEL. The original film was followed by a series seven sequels, some OK, some dire. Then we come to the 2007 version, hot on the heels of other remakes of classic horror movies such as THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE. The storyline involves death, murder and mayhem. The film begins with a ten year old boy, Michael Myers, murdering his family. I have to say that seeing the family and the way they treat each ... Read the complete review

(This review also resides at my site - ShaunMunro.co.uk, thanks!) Director: Rob Zombie Cast: Brad Dourif, Daeg Faerch, Ken Foree, Danielle Harris, Tyler Mane, Danny Trejo, Malcolm McDowell, Scout Taylor-Compton, Sheri Moon Zombie Release Date: August 31st, 2007 (US) Certificate: R (US) Rob Zombie's remake of Halloween, John Carpenter's horror classic, if nothing else, is a reinvention for our time. It wastes no time in cramming in as much crude dialogue as Zombie's pen can muster - in all of two minutes, there's discussions about "skull fucking", the ever-noticeable Rob Zombie stamp, which may as well have been a ...
