My Dad loves Westerns, which is lucky as he went to the cinema mostly during the 50s. The 50s and 60s had hundreds of Westerns and now they are all on TV on a regular basis. I am the first to admit that although they have similar settings; Westerns are not all the same. They tell different stories within a similar universe - a shame they're mostly incredibly boring. There is a genre today that seems to dominate the cinema during the summer months in a similar way today - superhero films. As a science fiction fan I welcomed the first few of the genre as an addition to other sci fi films. However, now it seems that there is little else in the genre world than schlock ... Directed by Peter Berg, and written by Vincent Ngo, 'Hancock' brings a new twist to the superhero movie genre. The eponymous Hancock (Will Smith) is a (flying & all-powerful) alcoholic, who has a reputation for causing destruction wherever he goes. After rescuing PR man Ray Embrey (Jason Bateman) from a train crash, Hancock is persuaded to change his image... but will he be able to maintain his new and respectable lifestyle? Hancock is a film i found quite entertaining overall and is certianly a different take on the superhero genre. Hancock is about a bum superhero who cant stop drinking and causes havok because of it. When it comes to saving people he basically causes havok everytime he tries to. Thats when advisor(jason bateman) comes into the scene to try and help hancock and clear up his image. Will smiths performance as hancock is very good and comes across as the drunking superhero very well. Charlize theron also puts in a very good performance as jason batemans wife and overall the acting performances are very good. The first hour or so of the film is ... Read the complete review

In general i was rather dissapointed. When i heard about a new film with Will Smith playing a waster super hero i thought it was right up my ally, unfortunatly they made a pig ear of a rather good concept. However i cannot describe why i was left feeling rather dissapointed with the film. Smith's acting was decent (not as good as he was in I Am Legend), but not bad. I am a huge fan of will smith, and that is one of the reasons a payed money to go see this film in the cinema. I found I am Legend and Independance Day to be in my all time favourite films. Persuite of happiness shows that he is a good actor, and he does not dissapoint in this film. However i was dissapointed ... Read the complete review
