Advantages: Great Mix of Manny Episodes featuing all the tools
Disadvantages: None for us
Little Man is a huge fan of Handy Manny on Disney Junior, and it is one of the very few programs that can come between him and Thomas (which gives me a welcome break from the back to back visits to the island of Sodor!) We got Tooling Around from Amazon as a Christmas gift for him to add to his ever expanding DVD collection.
Handy Manny lives in the town of Sheetrock Hills with his talking tools - Pat, Filipe, Turner, Rusty, Dusty, Flicker, Stretch, Squeeze and their robot dog Fix It. He runs a busy builders store, where he's does odd jobs around town for his neighbours. There are lots of other regular characters, including Kelly who runs the hardware store who I think has a bit of a crush on Manny, and Mr Lopart who runs the candy store, and fancies himself as a bit of a handyman (although he's useless!)
Tooling Around contains five episodes, each of which are about ten minutes long:
Squeeze's Day Off - After a quiet day in the repair shop Manny decides to take a day off, but Squeeze has a difficult time relaxing ....
Amigo Grande - When a new flagpole needs to be erected Manny Calls in a large crane, Amigo Grande. But the tools feel pushed out by such a grand tool....
A Sticky Fix - When screwdriver rivals Filipe and Turner end up super glued together, can they find a way to work together to complete the repair
Pat the Screwdriver - After a bang on the head Pat forgets who he is. Manny needs a hammer to complete his repair, can the tools help jog Pat's memory?
Supremoguy - Filipe appoints himself as a self proclaimed superhero, Supremoguy, and believes he can do all repairs himself. When the fed up tools leave him to it, he runs into trouble - Will the tools return to help him out?
There are also a couple of extras on the DVD. These include a building game that you play with the remote control, and a bonus episode of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse - Mickey's Handy Helpers. The Handy Helpers in the club house have broken down and Mickey and friends have to try and fix them - which fits in really well with the theme of the DVD
This DVD was a great hit with Little Man, and is one we watch regularly. As Manny is Hispanic he drops a few Spanish words into conversation which I didn't think he paid any attention to, but he has started to use a few words like rapido when he wants to go fast so I guess it is sinking in. His favourite episode was a sticky fix, I think the slapstick humour of two screwdrivers stumbling about stuck together really appeals to his sense of humour!
The DVD is 57 minutes long, which is a great length for a 3 year old - Long enough to get a bit of peace or some jobs done, but short enough to hold his interest and not keep him in front of the TV too long.
Available from Amazon for £5.88 delivered. Handy Manny is shown everyday on Playhouse Disney, but I would recommend this to any Manny Fans as it is handy for holidays etc - ours often goes to Nanny's as she hasn't got many channels!
Summary: Another Great Manny DVD
