Introduction This film was released in 2001, shortly before Hero, House of Flying Daggers and Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon were released in the UK. It is not remotely anything like any of the aforementioned films; but rather is a comedy/tragedy about life in modern China with the changing social environment very much in the background. I think that Zhang Yimou was probably making this film more for the Chinese market than the international one, but for film buffs who like something a bit different, this is an excellent portrayal of everyday life in China (and I'm not just making this up, I lived there for a long time).
