Do you know how long Harry Potter fans have been waiting for this film? You wouldn't believe me if I told you? 2 WHOLE YEARS!
This is one of the most anticipated films of 2009 which means it has to be good. According to the new it grossed $104 million on the day of its release. The cinema we were going to see it was fully booked on the Wednesday, so we had to go on the Thursday instead. And here is a harcore Harry Potter fans verdict on one of the most popular films to come out in 2009.

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince is the 6th film of the series of films. It follows Harry in this first senior year at the school and follows on from the death of his Godfather Sirius Black. For any of you who do not know, Harry Potter is a wizard. He attends Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry with his best friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Weasley. They have been best friends for 6 years and practically know everything about each other. However as they get older, they suffer the usual teenage angst and hormones. The evil Lord Voldemort, who killed Harry's parents, wants to kill Harry and rule the wizarding world. His personal army called Death Eaters, will murder and torture to get what they want. The book is about the fight between good and evil which is very clear throughout the movie.

Daniel Radcliffe is back as the handsome Harry Potter and I feel I have actually grown up with him. I remember being 12 and fancying him madly in the Chamber of Secrets film. This is the fantastic thing about Harry Potter, you really feel you have grown up not only with the characters, but also the cast. Like the other films it has cast some of Britain's finest actors. Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, Micheal Gambon, Bonnie Wright, Helena Bonham-Carter and many other actors and actresses are just some of the house hold names that are back for this installment. Of course there are some newbies to the cast including Jim Broadbent who you will know from so many films, I just can't list them! The Death Eater werewolf is played by Dave Legeno who is in real life a street fighter. Very fitting to the character. The film has a cast from all backgrounds, who are brought toghether so brilliantly in the film. What I loved was the mix of teenagers and adults, you hardly ever get that in a film that is not the sterotype. For example all films I see with teenagers and adults, the teens are portrayed as grumpy and outcasted from adults. Although this is partially true in real life it is great to see some unity and the development of relationships in the movie.

The film begins were the last film left off, Harry's beloved godfather Sirius Black has been killed by Death Eater Bellatrix Lestrange. The pain from this is so powerful but also the public are not aware that Black was his godfather as they think he is a murderer! If you haven't seen the last film, you may struggle a little to understand the first scenes. You can already tell however that the film will be a lot less dark than the last film. Of course there has to be some flirting so you see Harry in a cafe chatting up a muggle. Dumbledore finds him and Harry is forced to stand up the waitress (stood up by Harry Potter, if only she knew!) and they go on a little adventure. Dumbledore needs to get Harry to delicately persuade an old friend of his to become a teacher again at Hogwarts. This is Professor Slughorn, however we do not know at the time of course that this will lead to huge things, like unlocking the weakness to Lord Voldemort.

Harry is going back to Hogwarts however, as Hermione points out when they meet up at the Weasleys house, it is more dangerous than ever. Many students may not even go back in raw fear of the death eaters. Muggles are being attacked and in an incredible scene, one of the most famous bridges in London is completely destroyed by Death Eaters. Not only is the wizarding world suffering but the muggles are to. The film is making sure throughout there is a clarity to which characters are good and which are 'evil'. Going to Hogwarts is finally able to give Harry something different to think about rather than the darkness out there. Harry in an amusing scene in potions class, finds an old book entitled "The Property of the Half Blood Prince." In the book it has extra notes on how to make the best potions, which causes Harry to become the best in the class. He starts to become obsessed with the book as it is so full with extra knowledge, including a spell that should be used on enemies.

Draco Malfoy, Harry's long term enemy, becomes a big part of this film. Not only does Harry end up attacking him but we also learn a terrible dark secret about the young wizard. Dumbledore becomes frailer and frailer as the movie progresses and they go on journeys to try and understand Voldemort's mind. This includes a very important memory of when Voldemort was just a child (played by Ralph Fiennes nephew) in which you see how troubled and dark he was even then. We find out the reason Professor Slughorn is back to teach is that Harry needs to extract a memory from him. But will he be able to do it?

I don't want to mention to much about the plot as you would really have to see the film as it is a little complex. This is a downside of the film sadly, if you went to watch this film you may struggle to follow this if you haven't seen or read any of the previous films/books. The soundtrack is very good but it has a major flaw. It recycles material from all the previous movies which for fans is a bit of a let down. But despite this, the soundtrack is outstanding. The special effects are amazing. There are spectactular spells, dramatic quiddich and destruction scenes which are breathtaking.

It is a dark yet lightly humourous film which shows Harry growing up. How can one teenage boy fight evil, get his girl and complete his potions essay all at the same time? Well Harry Potter can!

THE BEST HARRY POTTER FILM EVER!
