Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone is a 2001 film release that was adapted from J.K Rowlings set of Harry Potter Books. This film is merged into the genres science fiction and fantasy, whilst in my opinion it also contains a lot of drama.
Plot:
After Harry Potter' Parents died whilst Harry was a baby. He was sent to live with his aunt and uncle. From a young age, however, Harry became aware that strange things seemed to happen when he was angry or scared. This became blindingly obvous when Harry on his 11th Birthday spoke to a snake and in the process released the snake and set his cousin Dudley in the snake pound. Once Harry recieves hundred's of letters (from Hogwarts) his uncle and aunt move him aware until Hogwarts gamekeeper Hagrid, tells Harry what really happened to his parents and tells him that he is a wizard and he should be attending a school for witch's and wizards - Hogwarts.
As Harry goes to get his school replies, he realises he is famous as he is the only person known to have survive Lord Voldermort (who killed his parents) He is also very famous at his school where he becomes a member of the Gryffindor house and the house's Quidditch team. As Harry progresses through his first year at Hogwarts, him and his friends Ron Wealsey (Rupert Grint) and Hermione Granger (Emma Watson) realise that the man who killed Harry's parents has returned and this time is after the Philosopher's Stone.
My Opinion:
I thought this film is well scripted considering how well known and popular the Harry Potter books have become. The cast placed into this film were very strong including the trio of leads (Harry, Ron and Hermione.) Daniel Radcliffe conveyed the characters of Harry Potter with convicton and immediately has the likability factor. Rupert Grint who plays Ron Weasley has most of the comic lines in this film. His portrayal of Freckled faced Ron alongside his chemistry with fellow lead Hermione (Emma Watson) makes this film a much lost. Tom Felton's portrayal of Draco Malfoy also must be congratulated as he is very much the villain. Whilst this film is a dramo and fantasy film, it has many witty moments usually by or at the expense of the Weasley Family. Well worth watching, this film can be watched by people of any age! It retails at anything between £1-£5 at various high street stores and online shops including amazon and ebay.
Summary: Absolutely Brilliant film!
