He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not (DVD) ... Samuel Le Bihan ... / DVD released 28 April, 2003 at Optimum Home Entertainment / Features of the DVD: PAL / In He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not the adorable Audrey Tautou from Amelie plays the central role in a deceptive story of a rather unusual romance. It would spoil the film's clever design to reveal what happens halfway through, so let's just say that Tautou is cast as a winsome girl in the sunny town of Bordeaux whose relationship with a married doctor has more layers than first it seems. Samuel LeBihan, from Brotherhood of the Wolf, plays the doctor, but it's the casting of cutie-pie Tautou that sets up the movie's gradually sinister undertow. Director Laetitia Colombani's inventive structure plays a satisfyingly tricky game with the audience, and may have some viewers going back to the beginning to make sure they saw what they thought they saw. Just don't go in expecting Amelie, Deuxième Partie and you should find this an ingenious little number. --Robert Horton

He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not - is the silly English title given to the French film 'A La Folie... Pas Du Tout' and was first released in 2002. What might be described as a romantic thriller was the debut by director Laetitia Colombani who also wrote the script alongside Caroline Thivel. This is a review about the film only. The film stars Audrey Tautou as the infatuated Angelique, a student who works part time in a café and has won a scholarship to art school (although only God knows how if you judge by the pretty awful drawing she does at the beginning of the film). It soon comes to light that the object of her mad desires (with the emphasis on mad) is ...  Read the complete review

À la folie... pas du tout (He Loves Me...He Loves Me Not) is one of the most thought provoking films of recent years. Tremendously romantic from the beginning before spiralling into a thrilling and complex mystery, it shows the viewer two very different sides of one "relationship". It focuses on the life of Angélique (Audrey Tautou), a young art student who has just been awarded the opportunity for her work to be displayed in public galleries. Her tutor reminds her that she will need to work all year in order to produce the twelve paintings required, but Angélique seems to be forever in a dream world and always has other things on her mind. ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not (DVD): Crazy In Love - French Style (915 words)

A La Folie… Pas Du Tout (He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not) is a French romantic thriller, starring Audrey Tautou. You know, from Amélie and The Da Vinci Code. That might have got you interested, but it might also have you running a mile. Each to their own. But let me tell you: it's a little bit different from the norm, and it's actually quite good. Audrey Tautou plays Angélique, a young art student who has just received a contract for her work to be displayed in public; and she is also madly in love. It all sounds pretty rosy so far, non? However, the man she loves is actually a 36-year old cardiologist, Loïc (played by Samuel Le Bihan), and he has a pregnant ...  Read the complete review

Angelique buys a single rose for the new man in her life. Normally the shop won't deliver one bloom, but she has such a wide, warm smile, and eyes so deep and dark you'd drown, that they do - it goes to Loic, who's a cardiologist, and she goes to art school. Over the opening scenes of the film we see her and him going about their relationship business. At a university function she follows him up some stairs for time away from everyone. He knocks on her door at dead of night, when unfortunately she's out. She delivers a huge portrait at dead of another night to his offices as a birthday present. She also gets stood up on said birthday night. She and ...  Read the complete review

Very rarely will you come accross a film like this. I don't mean it in terms of quality but the sheer fact that the film tells the story from two perspectives in either halves and the same story seems so different. In the second half, the film is from the perspective of the doctor and everything appears to be very different from what we saw and thought in the first half.
