Advantages: Good cast, A nice little film

Disadvantages: Way Too Long, A Lot of the cast were there because of there names, there roles were unessesary

After hearing lots and lots of bad reviews about this film, I was very sceptical about watching it; however I needed one more film for my monthly four from blockbuster, so I decided to pick up this one, as it can't be that bad with so much of a star studded cast.

I was very pleased with the film, I have to say, we stuck it into the laptop when a thunderstorm hit, and I really did enjoy it. Here is a bit more about it before I give you my full opinion.

=======
The Plot
=======

The film is pretty much based on every possible aspect of romance, so boys, this is probably a film us girls will make you watch, not one that you'll watch willingly. It follows the lives of a group of men and women all of different ages, as they deal with their different issues surrounding romance.

From an early age Gigi was told the time old classic of if a guy is nasty to a girl, then he has a crush on her. All these years later, she's still following this theory, and desperately waits for a man to call her after every date. However when she meets Alex, she finally realises what she was told at a very young age was a complete lie, and she has to now completely change her opinions on what romance truly is.

There are a lot of other stories running through this film, however most of them I'll explain as I talk about the cast and my opinion.

=======
The Cast
=======

Gigi - Ginnifer Goodwin
Anna - Scarlett Johansson
Beth- Jennifer Aniston
Janine- Jennifer Connelly
Mary- Drew Barrymore

Alex - Justin Long
Neil- Ben Affleck
Ben- Bradley Cooper
Conor- Kevin Connolly

My Opinion
=======

I have to say, that even though this film was unnecessarily long, I did enjoy it, and I did really love the way that they had intertwined each person, but without really getting them all together or anything like that.

The length was probably one of the biggest problems that this film had, and I think it's why a lot of people do not like it. I think if I was the editor or even the screen play writer, I would have taken out the story that Bradley Cooper, Scarlett Jonhansson and Jennifer Connelly had, as it was just cringe worthy and just more stupid than anything. I think if this was taken out, then we would have lost about 20 minutes of the film and then it would have been just a good enough length.

As well as the problem with the length, you really shouldn't expect 'jokes' throughout the film, I don't remember really laughing in the film, but it didn't take away from the loveliness of some of the stories within the film.

Cast Opinion
========

At the beginning Gigi played by Ginnifer Goodwin I didn't really like and she just came off as a stalker girl and I thought, oh god, another film where us girls all come across as stalkers, but I think she carried the film brilliantly, and I think it's very rude that when you load up the DVD that her face is not on the root menu, as she is the lead in the film, and the 'other' more popular actors were just there really because of their name as their performances were quite boring.

Jennifer Aniston is fantastic in the film, as probably one of the biggest friends fan that I know, I probably watched this film because of her, she's not as good as other cast members, but her performance is not over acted, she delivers a nice performance for what she's given. Her chemistry with Ben Affleck as well was quite nice to watch, he like Aniston delivered a lovely performance with what he was given.

I have loved Bradley Cooper since his Alias days, however by the end of the film I wanted to smack him. Yes he does play an ass in the film, but he didn't act brilliantly and he really was just there to be pretty. I think his storyline with Scarlett Johansson and Jennifer Connelly was unnecessary and it added a lot of extra time to the film that was not needed. Johansson and Connelly were good, but their scenes bored me more than anything. Drew Barrymore and Kevin Connolly as well, had very small performances which just took up too much unnecessary time.

The film wouldn't have been even worth watching without the brilliant Justin Long who you can't help but like. I have watched him over the years in films like Dodgeball and Die Hard 4.0 and this is one of his best performances, I think he does have the best script to work from however, and he is the guy that we all wish we have in our lives, but I think without him I would have turned it off quite soon after turning it on.

Final Opinion
=========

The film does depict women at stalkers and men as big asses, which did get a bit annoying, but it is an eye opener to see where I've been going wrong with the guys I seem to be going after as well. However, I have to say this was a good film, if you can ignore the length, and the fact that some of the cast were only there because of the names then you may enjoy the film.

It's a like it or hate it kind of film, and as long as you don't take what they're saying too seriously, then you may just, surprisingly enjoy the film.

Don't buy the film; rent it, then I think you may have more appreciation for it.

Summary: It was a good film overall, it should have been edited a LOT more though.

A real shame, as with the A list ensemble cast you really expected much better. They all looked like they were to pick up an easy paycheck in between "real" movies. Nicely reviewed. 8^)
