Advantages: Great Cast, Funny, Clever twists in the story
Disadvantages: A little too long
Heartbreakers is the new romantic comedy with a great cast. After lots of nagging from my wife I decided to sit down and watch it with her. Well I am glad I did.
Heartbreakers follows the family partnership of Max (Sigourney Weaver) and Page (Jennifer Love Hewitt) in there quest to con millionaire men out of their hard earned cash. Max and Page are a mother and daughter team who target men with the aim of marrying them and then getting huge divource payments out of them. The film starts out with Max marrying Ray Liotta character and then tricks him into having an affair. The con artists then travel to Palm Beach for one last con trip. They target a tobacco billionaire played by Gene Hackman. Whilst they try to con the rich man Page falls for a local lad and things get a little complicated.
One of the main strengths of this movie is the all star cast. How many other films could include Sigourney Weaver, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Ray Liotta and Gene Hackman. The cast do an excellent job. Hewitt and Weaver have a good relationship and seem to enjoy there roles. If you are fan of Jennifer Love Hewitt then you will love this film. She has a change of custume nearly every 10 minutes and most of the customes are little more than a belt! The star of the film is Gene Hackman. He has a difficult role to play as the heavy smoking millionaire. He is very funny. It was also strange to see Ray Liotta after his role in Hannibal. I will never be able to look at him the same after the end scene from Hannibal.
Heartbreakers has a perfect combination of comedy and romance. It can be very funny at times which distracts from the running time of over 2 hours. Yes the film does drag towards the end. If I was to be honest I would say that the film could have ended half an hour before but I am sure the director wanted it to end on a happy note. The ending is good but a little predictable so I am not sure if the last 20 minutes were really needed. Heartbreakers is not
family entertainment though as some of the scenes are pretty rude. Nothing much happens but it is implied!
If you are after a quiet night in watching a film which does not require much thinking than Heartbreakers is for you. It is a clever movie which will have you laughing out loud but also feeling good about yourself when it has finished.
