I feel relatively safe in saying that Hellraiser III: Hell On Earth was truly hellish to sit through and I had low expectations for Hellraiser IV. (Let us not talk about Hellraiser: Inferno, which went straight to video) I wasn't able to see it in the theatres, and after Hell On Earth, I wasn't feeling to bad about waiting for the video to come out. I know a great many people have trouble with Hellraiser: Bloodline. Yes, it jumps around in time and so we wind up with Pinhead and a few of his fellow Cenobites in a space station. Silly? What the hell happened? The first Hellraiser was a classic of horror, introducing us to Pinhead, one of the most memorable villains the genre has produced, and putting Clive Barker well and truly on the map. What the second film, Hellbound: Hellraiser 2, lacked in originality it made up for with a sheer visual feast of gore that could only endear it to the fans of the original, whilst managing to accomplish what could have been a disastrous move, that of putting two major, memorable villains into one film (Pinhead and the wonderful surgeon), very well indeed.
