Advantages: A good start
Disadvantages: Rubbish twists; The ending didn't make sense; Dakota Fanning is irritating
I watched Hide And Seek with my mate last week and thought it was proper rubbish even though it was supposed to have been one of the best films of 2005 but I reckon anything starring De Niro gets called the best film even though he's lost his edge as an actor now.
It's about a man called David Callaway whose wife committed suicide at the beginning of the film and left him to look after their daughter Emily. Emily becomes withdrawn because of her mum dying and so David and her move to a remote house so he can help her to get over it. It turns out to be not a very good idea because they soon realise an evil entity is pretending to be Emily's imaginary friend and he is not frighted to kill someone to get his own way.
It sounds like a proper good idea for a film but it doesn't work out very well for some reason and the film is just stupid. Robert De Niro doesn't look right in the roll of David and if he was my dad I wouldn't want him to look so angry all the time if he was trying to help me.
Dakota Fanning is irritating in this like she usually is. She's a proper bad actress I think but everyone thinks she's great because she's so young. In this when she is trying to look scared it looks overdone because she makes herself all shaky and I don't think she has got the right appearence to be in a horror film like this.
I don't think it's much of a horror anyway because you never get to see Charlie the imaginary friend and it didn't make me jump or scare me once in the film. I reckon it's more of a thriller than anything but I think the film moved on without very much happening at all and even at the end of it it is just stupid because it doesn't make sense and I think the ending is only like it because they couldn't think of another twist for it.
I can't tell you the ending but it's a shock but not in a very good way, when Hide And Seek first came out everyone said how brill the end was but it wasn't and I thought it was just silly.
De Niro and Dakota Fanning are brill together in Hide And Seek even though I don't think either of them were right for the parts. They come across as a real father and daughter and David is proper concerned about how Emily is coping with her mum dying and that's a lot of why I can't understand why they made the ending like they did because it spoiled all the things they had tried to put across about David and Emilys relationship.
It's a 15 because there is a bit of blood in it but there's not a lot and I reckon it should have been a 12 because it's not that bad and I don't think this film would scare any kids because there are some that are loads worse for blood and gore.
