Advantages: Great scenic shots of London, Girl power, British

Disadvantages: Mildly pathetic

Now and again we Brits get an idea for a film and very occasionally by some quirk of fate success shines through. The fact that this is a British movie is unmistakable! We must surely 'make them that way' with our 'stiff upper lip' just in case the odd American has a look maybe?

This one is set in London as it happens and you probably wouldn't recognise the city. There are some great shots of the tower blocks almost making it look like New York City by comparison! A great opening title sequence then, since it would seem, so close to home!

We then venture almost straight into a pretty ridiculous bank vault robbery that is probably supposed to be funny, (It all looks too easy). It's a bit crazy but extremely watchable as we get to follow Minnie Driver and Mary McCormack as they eavesdrop on a mobile conversation that virtually describes the event as it happens!

Getting the inevitable response from the low resourced police the girls decide to blackmail the robbers and from here on in the fun starts! OK so it's almost (but not quite) a bit of your 'nuns on the run' style caper with some pretty pathetic attempts at making us laugh. I did enjoy (and have to laugh out loud at) the 'daddy gangster boss' character though and the 'dirty old toe rag' language. The 'girl power' elements of the movie shine through but they are hardly Charlie's Angels and at times one wonders whether to take them seriously or not since this is supposed to be a comedy caper.

The ladies play their parts really well though undoubtedly making the movie with some weak but mildly glamorous screenplay. Maybe the producers really made this movie as a bit of fun anyway? It seemed to arrive unannounced enough and it's a shame that the feature is probably too inadequate to impress anyone for any award winning wonders.

In some ways the movie even sums up the 'crime does pay brigade' syndic
ate of today, and is typically funny with the British detective attitude having so much of a forensic foresight into the happenings of a Crime (yet always being one step behind) and the 'money is more than life' moral of the criminal. One can only laugh hollowly at the portrayals in the story!

It's hardly a 'carry on' or 'fawlty towers' quality comedy though even if it does raise (a few) successful laughs here and there. To be honest it's more the 'girl power' facade that this film should really be proud of.

Good effort though I thought and mildly entertaining too.

There are some musically themed moments in there too, and although there probably won't be a soundtrack for sale (don't tell me there is one)? I thought this added a pretty appropriate touch and was reasonably well done.

Good op, from what you say, there is nothing particularly original or exiting about this film. I think I will wait for video if I see it at all.
