Advantages: Easy to follow storyline, catchy songs.
Disadvantages: Poor acting, cheesy songs.
Well if you managed to read my last review you will know that I was not that impressed with the first High School Musical DVD but my work colleague had said she thought the 2nd movie was much better.
As I have had the DVD for over a week, I decided I had to watch it.
*~*Storyline*~*
Once again the original cast members return for the second installment of High School Musical 2.
The story begins with the cast waiting for spring break, as the minutes tick by the guys and girls start thinking of summer and burst into song.
Troy and Gabriella make plans to spend spring break together watching movies and going on dates together.
Sharpay Evans however has other plans she is jealous that she has been excluded and decides to try and split Gabriella and Troy up by organising for Troy to be employed at the Country Club where Ryan and Sharpay will be spending their holiday with their parents, what Sharpay doesn't know is that Troy accepts the
position and also manages to secure the Wildcats a job also.
The film revolves around the characters working at th Country Club and Sharpay's plan to try and separate Troy ad Gabriella by boasting about how great Troy is to her parents and ensuring that the owner of the Country Club promotes Troy at every chance.
The rest of the Wildcats realise that Troy is changing, could Sharpay's plan be working and what will become of the group of friends?
*~*My Opinion*~*
Compared to the first HSM dvd this one is a vast improvement, there is more of a storyline and the characters seem that little bit more maturer and it actually is less cringeworthy than the first, the songs are easier to sing along to but there are some extremely embarrasing moments in this film for Troy, as he walks out of the Country Club at night he bursts into song, the scenary itself is unrealistic and the song is quite possibly the worst out of the whole film.
Again the actors are not the best, emotionless and hard to relate to, this film will definately appeal to children aged 6 upwards and will love the upbeat songs to sing a long to and the songs are so typically Disney you can't help but humm the tunes they are addictive and stick in your brain all day long.......What time is it???
My husband still refused point blank to watch this with me and stayed out of the way until it was over. If you have young children I am sure they would love this, if this had been the first high school musical dvd then I probably would understand what the hype has been about but as far as I know HSM1 was a waste of time to watch and I really did not enjoy it at all as I spent most of the time cringing, HSM2 was much more enjoyable with a storyline that is so typically american, kids on spring break spoilt kids wanting everything there way and the kids that are easy to relate to end up coming out on top.
If you like Clueless this DVD is pretty similar to that but with a lot more singing and dancing thrown in.
Summary: I won't be rusing to see High School Musical 3 in a hurry!
