Advantages: Relaxing, easy to watch

Disadvantages: Not engaging, too predictable

High School Musical is a bit iffy, cheesy and is average film overall. I guess sometimes we need a bit of cheese in our films though! But I think this film is too overrated and too much merchandise are taking over the shops!

It's about high school in America, with a basket-ball player dreaming that one day he can sing (Troy played by Zac Efron) and when a new girl comes into the school (Gabriella played by Vanessa Hudgens) their lives turn upside down when they both figure they have the same dream. Trying to achieve this dream, they both sign up to the 'high school musical' and their relationship grows. Troy is too embarrassed to tell his friends worried with what they might say. Rivals, Sharpay and Ryan Evans (played by Ashley Tisdale and Lucas Gabreel) try to stop them in their way to try and play their part in the show, as they realise their potential. Will they get to perform, or will their dreams get broken as the Evans try to step in their way?

Overall i thought this film was mediocre. Too predictable, but that's what you get with Disney now-a-days. It's good on a lazy day and your bored and want something light and relaxing. This is the type of film to watch for that occasion, but it's not a film where you can get engaged in nor does it provide a story in which excites you. I guess it is quite enjoyable to watch over and again but in comparison to other films it's not brilliant.

I have to say, I really hate what Disney are turning into though. With the likes of Camp Rock and Hannah Montana taking over our t.v screens, children are being encouraged to want to get involved with pop and stardom which i don't think is correct. High School Musical is less annoying then them but i can see what Disney films in the future are going to be like - not great. I think this company have lost their touch they once had. Don't you remember all those classic films? Snow White, Alice in Wonderland, Lady and the Tramp, Fox and the Hound; films like these are slowly fading away into history. I want more of those films - not garbage.

If you want to relax your mind, i would recommend it. If you want an in depth, engaging film, i wouldn't. It's also about preference and if you want to listen to some songs. I hope you make the right decision! But for me...i think i'll stick to adventure, action and thriller films thanks!
