Advantages: good film, well presented
Disadvantages: Lack of extras, time taken to release on region 2
Not having a multi region dvd player, I have been waiting what seems an eternity (thank god I am immortal) for this to come out on region 2. I first saw the film in the late 80s and was hooked. The soundtrack is unbelievable and available (A kind of Magic - Queen) and helps the film through. The story is a little confusing at first as it jumps back and forth between New York (present day) and the Higlands of Scotland (when the highlanders lived - sorry memories going, its the age 300 years old). But you do get used to it. The editing flows well from each and once you have the gist - an immortal living in the present day born hundreds of years ago trying to kill other immortals for the prize - got it now, you will be fine. There are plenty of action scenes with Christopher Lambert fighting the forces of evil.... The Kurgan (guess what he's a Russian). Plenty of sword fighting macho style. Sean Connery pops up as the mentor to Lambert a bit like Ben Kenobi to Luke Skywalker, just like Ben he doesnt make it through the film long. There is some humour as you go through although this doesnt detract from the rest of the film. This is definitely the best of the three and they should have stopped here, but they didnt. So if I am so impressed with the film why so glum???? Usual lack of extras. It is hard to understand why the region 1 copy is special edition blah blah blah and we get...THE FILM. Its an ongoing debate why there is a difference but I wish they would give us a bit more for our money. Like I said its a good film and worth watching, although only buy this if the film is enough for you.
