Advantages: video quality, Sean Connery, The movie
Disadvantages: soundtrack, extras
Everyone knows this movie and the plot so I will not go into details. This will be an analysis of the disc only. If you would like to know my feelings (personal interpretations) for this movie check my review in the movie section. First off I must say that I have the region 2 version. I haven't seen the region 1 version but from what I could infer the region 1 movie has a better soundtrack and extras but a LOUSY (some go so far as to say it's one of the worst ever made on DVD) picture. Region 2 version has a good video quality, decent but according to common opinion worst soundtrack, losing also on the extras. Nowadays the version to have is, by general consensus, region 2. However it seems that next year a new version of this movie will come out in region 1. All bets are on to the quality of this version... as no details, as far as I know, have come out. Proceding with the analysis: Video Quality: Anamorphic 1:85 that is quite good. It will not rival modern blockbuster such as gladiator, but for a film shoot in 1986 and with a lot of night scenes it is quite good. We finally get to see these shots of the Highlands of Scotland in all their glory. Sound: Only heard the english track, Dolby Digital 5.1. It is good enough. The dialog comes out clearly for the most part of film. I would say it does just enough to pass... on a grade of 0-20 I would give 11/12. Extras: There are some extras, like a trailer, picture gallery and interview. Of these the only one I liked was the trailer. Conclusion: The region 2 version of this film is acceptable and i recomend buying if you can find somewhere cheap.

x10397 - 28/09/01 Judgee, thanks for the comments but I have to disagree with them.
In my review in the movie section I try and express my personal interpretations of the movie, not merely describe the story, especially in a cult film, that almost everyone has seen at least once, be it on DVD, the movies or even in the telly, thus also knowing the story. I thought it would be more interesting to take a personal perspective. As for DVD review it's in the guidelines for the sections that this shouldn't be a review of the film itself but of the quality of disc.
