Advantages: Some good fight scenes, Reasonable special effects

Disadvantages: Lamberts no longer a convincing highlander, Average script, Doesnt fit together with the other films in the series

Highlander Endgame is the fourth and final (hopefully!) installment of the popular Highlander series of films. It all started off in the 80's with the worldwide smash hit original and now ends with this reasonably high budget follow on.

For anyone who has seen the first three Highlander movies you will probably agree that they shouldn't have bothered after the first one. Highlander two was one of the worst sequels that I have seen and the third installment was not much better.

Anyway on to Highlander Endgame. This movie brings together Christopher Lambert and Adrian Paul. Lambert plays Connor Mcleod and Paul continues his role from the Highlander TV series as Duncan Mcleod. The two are very close friends and watch each others backs in the immortal world. The film goes back to the same formula as the original movie and shows clips from Scotland when Connor was banished from his village. At certain points the film seemed quite promising. There is a new bad guy introduced in this movie. Kell (Bruce Payne) is the insane bad guy who is after revenge for a murder comitted by Connor. The story is pretty simple and works quite well. The special effects are pretty impressive as well and some of the scenes towards the end of the movie are quite emotional.

Well I guess you are thinking that this film doesn't seem to bad. Well you would be wrong! The action scenes are relatively impressive. They have been spiced up abit since the original movie and include several different fighting characters. The point where this movie gets stupid is where the whole series of films don't fit together. This film has some key moments which dont tie in with the rest of the films in the series so make a mockery of the whole series.

Adrian Paul comes out of the film with credit but I am not sure if that is because Christopher Lambert is looking old and fragile now. Lambert's acting in this movie is awful and painful to watch at times. He cert
ainly doesn't look like a Highlander who has been fighting immortals. The fact that he looks much younger in the 2nd movie which is set in the future makes the whole film silly.

Overall Highlander Endgame is not a bad film and is certainly the 2nd best movie in the series. However that doesn't say much as the apart from the original the other ones were poor. IF you are a fan of the Highlander series then this is probably worth taking a look at. Don't expect much and you will probably be pleasantly surprised! It just makes you wonder how much more the film companies are going to try and squeeze out of this series. Its time to stop as no more are needed.

I think the Highlander series of films must rank as the worst series of films in history. I doubt this one is much better. Enjoyed reading your well written op
