Hitman (DVD) ... PAL / Agent 47 (Timothy Olyphant) has been educated to become a professional assassin for hire, whose most powerful weapons are his nerve and a resolute pride in his work. 47 is both the last two digits of the barcode tattooed on the nape of his neck, and his only name. The hunter becomes the hunted when 47 gets caught up in a political takeover. Both Interpol and the Russian military chase the hitman across Eastern Europe as he tries to find out who set him up and why they're trying to take him out of the game. But the greatest threat to 47's survival may be the stirrings of his conscience and the unfamiliar emotions aroused in him by a beautiful, damaged girl...

... wants to bring him to justice, while the other wants him killed as a cover up. The main protagonist of the film, Agent 47 is played by Timothy Olyphant. Agent 47 is highly intelligent, skilled and trained assassin; that is known by his trademark black suit, white shirt and red tie. The reason that he is given the name 47 is due to him being the 47th child. The history of the character differs from the computer game and the film, as in the film the character is stated as being an orphan that has been taken in by ...more

Premium Review Hitman (DVD): Hitman hits the big screen... (1130 words)
by - written on 20/02/08 (Very useful, 61 readings)
Rating:

(Also appears at ShaunMunro.co.uk, thanks!) Director: Xavier Gens Cast: Olga Kurylenko, Timothy Olyphant, Dougray Scott Release Date: November 21st, 2007 (US), November 30th, 2007 (UK) Certificate: R (US), 15 (UK) Hitman, the adaptation of the excellent computer game franchise of the same name, will undoubtedly have fans flocking in their droves to witness slick assassin, Agent 47, on the big screen. The horde of fans bring with them the minute glimmer of hope that it will join the few game-to-film adaptations that, frankly, haven't been derivative, uninspired messes. What is apparent very quickly is how preposterously ...  Read the complete review

When a gun for hire, known only as Agent 47 (Timothy Olyphant) shoots and kills the Russian prime minister it seems like a standard hit. When however someone then tries to take him out he knows he has been betrayed. Now with only the Mistress of the man he killed for company, Agent 47 is on the run trying to keep himself alive. As well as his own agency, Agent 47 is also being tracked by Interpol agent Mike Whittier (Dougray Scott) and the Russian Secret Police. He must do everything he can to stay one step ahead of them all and ensure his survival. Having been a big fan of the games I was quite keen to see the adaptation of Hitman into a major Hollywood ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Hitman (DVD): Damn, he's good! (488 words)
by - written on 31/01/08 (Very useful, 34 readings)
Rating:

'Oh great,' I thought to myself as I sat down to watch Hitman and found out it was another film based on a computer game. 'Why am I bothering?' However, 1 hour and 29 minutes later, I sat there having just enjoyed one fo the most easy-to-watch films I have seen in a long time. A good notch for relatively new director Xavier Gens to have on his directing belt. To give a brief summary of the plot, Hitman is based on the computer game of the same name, the title kind of giving it away! Timothy Oliphant plays Agent 47, a member of an elite group of hired assassins raised from an early age by a rebellious segment of the Church. He is relentlessly pursued by Interpol ...  Read the complete review

Rating:

WARNING - This review contains some plot spoilers Hitman is Agent 47, the perfect assassin; cold, emotionless, precise.. raised and trained to kill from a young age by a renegade sector of the Church. Agent 47 (Timothy Olyphant - Die Hard 4.0, A Man Apart) is a dark and interesting character; a ruthless assassin who never misses. He is hired by a group to kill the Russian President, Mikhail Belicoff (Ulrich Thomsen - Kingdom Of Heaven). The hit is carried out as planned but to Agent 47's dismay, Belicoff is alive and well the following day. Agent 47 never misses, and soon realises that he has been set up by his employers and is thrown into a world ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Hitman (DVD): Hitman? This is the Pits Man! (287 words)
by - written on 19/03/08 (Very useful, 142 readings)
Rating:

I didn't want to go really, I was dragged along to see this and had to drag myself out of the cinema after one and of half hours of degrading torture. The withdrawal symptoms of tedious monotony took a while to wear off. It's like watching someone play a video game for three hours... no it wasn't, that would have been exhilarating in comparison. This is a French-US videogame adaptation (why?) produced by Luc Besson in which sad git Timothy Olyphant plays the role of a mysterious and elusive assassin with a bar-coded stuck on his head. This is because he's a member of a mysterious monastic organisation made up of the "unwanted and disposable." As if. ...  Read the complete review
