Advantages: Ok film

Disadvantages: Something missing to give it that spark, not as good as the computer game

Hitman film released in 2007 is based on the successful computer game of the same that follows a hired hitman as he takes contracts.

The film is based around the exploits of Agent 47 as he undertakes jobs for his employers the International Contract Agency or the International Contract Organisation and is either know as the Agency or the Organisation. The film starts just as Agent 47 has completed a contract in Africa and is given the job is assassinating the Russian President. During the hit something goes wrong and 47 has to clear up the mess, in the form Nika, played by Ogla Kurylenko.

Throughout the film 47 is chased by Interpol, by Agent Whittier and the Russian FSB lead by Chief Marklov. The one has been chasing Agent 47 for a while and wants to bring him to justice, while the other wants him killed as a cover up.

The main protagonist of the film, Agent 47 is played by Timothy Olyphant. Agent 47 is highly intelligent, skilled and trained assassin; that is known by his trademark black suit, white shirt and red tie. The reason that he is given the name 47 is due to him being the 47th child.

The history of the character differs from the computer game and the film, as in the film the character is stated as being an orphan that has been taken in by the 'organization' and trained in the combat and weapons training; where as in the game it is stated that he is a clone that has again been trained at an early age. On the back of Olyphant's head is 47's trademark barcode tattoo.

The character of 47, I believe is very difficult to be transferred from a computer game to film, as while it may be a good computer game it may not be a good film. As the character of 47 is this emotionless efficient assassin whose main aim is to get the job done as efficient as possible. But actually the transfer was not as bad as I though, as Olyphant plays the character almost spot on through the majority of the film. Although in certain points of the film you can see a clear departure from the computer game as a bit of emotion is added.

One thing I would say about the film is that it is quite violent, and in this case relates very much to the computer game and therefore a person of a young age should not be watching this film.

Overall the film was not too bad, but is not the best film that you will ever see. As the film subject, taking an emotionless character from a computer is not one of the easiest to do. As you may also see, my view of the film is influenced by my view on the computer game and in terms of the game the film is not as good, but as a standalone film, it is ok; although I would say that, for me, there was something missing to give it that extra spark.

This is a review of the film and not the DVD.

Summary: An Ok film but nothing special
